MOSCOW, IDAHO: The front door of the house where the four University of Idaho students were brutally murdered was allegedly left wide open hours after the killings. Ethan Chapin, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Madison Mogen, 21, were stabbed to death on November 13, 2022, in an off-campus housing unit that showed no signs of any break-in.
However, a neighbor reportedly revealed that the front door, which gives access to the floor where two of the victims' roommates were staying, was open at 8:30 am on the day of the killings. Police previously noted that they believe the murder took place around 3 and 4 am. They further informed that the bodies of Madison and Kaylee were found on the house's third floor, while Xana and her boyfriend Ethan's bodies were discovered on the second floor.

Hapless police appeals for PUBLIC HELP in solving brutal murder of University of Idaho students
Earlier, the Moscow Police Department said that it is probing the movements of Ethan and Xana from the tragic night of the incident. Earlier appeals to the public had focused on Kaylee and Madison's activities which involved stops at a local bar and a food truck. "That actually seems to be one of the larger areas that we don't have a lot of information in," Idaho State Police communications director Aaron Snell told 'Good Morning America' of Ethan and Xana's movements on November 12, 2022.
"So being able to locate what they did that night, to maybe who they contacted, maybe any routes they took home, that would be important to the investigation," he added. The couple was believed to have visited the frat house, where Ethan was a member, hours before the murders. Ethan and Xana visited the Sigma Chi house from about 9 pm on November 12 until around 1.45 am, and then returned to Xana's off-campus home, which is just a short walk away. Moreover, as the ongoing investigation nears a month with no suspect or murder weapon, families of the slain victims are growing impatient.
Kaylee's father Steven previously claimed that police had told him her injuries were worse than the other victims, but he didn't go into detail. However, Moscow police contradicted that remark in their new statement, saying, "With the active criminal investigation, law enforcement has not released additional facts to the family or the public. There have been statements and speculation about this case, victim injuries, cause of death, evidence collection and processing, and investigative techniques," reported the Daily Mail. "The Moscow Police Department is committed to providing information whenever possible but not at the expense of compromising the investigation and prosecution," the department said.
