In a new promo for Episode 2, we visit a Petty Officer who had been arrested by Sam Hanna and G Callen because he had killed a suspected Taliban member who was not even armed. The promo indicates how this officer had even gone to the extent of posing with the individual whom he had killed – and the events that conspired after were deemed as war crimes by Sam and Callen. In this case, a star witness was expected to appear to give testimony against the Petty Officer. However, if we go by the synopsis, he is missing. According to CBS, the official synopsis of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' Season 12 Episode 2 is as follows: "As the trial begins of a Chief Petty Officer who Callen and Sam arrested for war crimes last year, the NCIS team is called to help find the missing star witness."

The promo also reveals a man appearing in the Navy's court of law and claiming that the one who killed the suspected member of the Taliban was him. Indicating the petty officer who had been arrested by Sam and Callen hadn't committed the crime. This, of course, ends up messing the entire case that Sam and Callen had built. In fact, when Callen hears the witness' statement he is shocked and then states the obvious when he tells Sam that this case has been blown out of the water.

The petty officer who is accused of "murdering an unharmed Taliban personal" is Navy Chief Petty Officer Thomas Argento (Juan Riedinger). The officers who are present at the hearing with Argento seem extremely satisfied as they sport a smile at having thwarted team Sam and Callen's plans. However, things as Sam indicated in the promo is not over.

Sure, a star witness might have appeared to claim blame for what really happened, but Sam and Callen seem confident of being able to find a way out. In fact, when Sam meets Argento in what looks like some sort of prison, he categorically tells him, "This isn't over Argento" and we cannot wait to see what kind of plot his team would employ to help capture Argento.

Also, from what was indicated in the promo, this trial seems to be a big deal for team NCIS as we also see Kensi accompanying Callen to the hearing and all meetings. Why is this hearing important and what kind of influence will this have on the upcoming episodes of the season is something that we will have to stay tuned for.

'NCIS: Los Angeles' Season 12 new episodes will air every Sunday on CBS at 8.30 pm ET.
