Less than a month after its return from a short Winter break, the 'NCIS' franchise is taking time off again. This means added wait and more anxious anticipation surrounding why Anna wasn't where she told Callen she was going to be volunteering. Why is 'NCIS: LA' not airing tonight?
CBS is currently airing this season of NFL's AFC championship and the Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs match starting airing at 6:40 PM ET/PT on January 25. The broadcast will continue for an estimated three hours, as only 'FBI airs next on CBS at 10 pm. That's this Sunday, but 'NCIS: Los Angeles' will be gone next week too. The answer to why so, probably lies in "stalled production due to the pandemic" all through last year. It's difficult to keep a 22 episode season shot in advance in the guidelines and mandates studios had to accustom to, probably why the show is taking time off airing to film newer episodes and return in sets of three.
So far this season, this is the second break the show is going on. Network shows often take random breaks apart from the designated winter break to space out the episodes throughout the designated months on the air. But after taking off on December 13, 'NCIS: LA' returned three full weeks later on January 3. This time, the show aired last on January 17 with Season 12 Episode 9 'A Fait Accompli'. Now Episode 10 'The Frogman's Daughter' is expected to not air for almost a month now.

Which 'NCIS: LA' episodes will air on CBS instead?
While there's no new episode tonight, on Sunday, January 31, Season 11 Episode 17 'Fortune Favours the Brave' will air at the same time. The synopsis of the episode reveals "While Sam investigates the murder of an Iranian exile working to overthrow the current regime, he must also try to save Agent Rountree (Caleb Castille), a new agent who's having an unexpectedly adventurous first day on the job, when he accidentally triggers a bomb. Also, Nell makes a decision about her future with NCIS."
