As news broke that actress and singer Naya Rivera, 33, was missing after a boating excursion with her four-year-old-son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, fans poured out their love and their support for the family. The details in the case are still developing, as many hope she's found alive as investigators try to be "realistic." Meanwhile, the Internet has called attention to the safety measures that seem to be lacking at the location where the 'Glee' star may have seemingly drowned. This is not the first incident at Lake Piru, and people are calling for no more swimming at the location that is notorious for previous drowning accidents. It was reported that there were seven people that had lost their lives to drowning between the years of 1994 and 2000, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

A new petition, 'Don't Allow Swimming at Lake Piru in Ventura, CA', on change.org has garnered 350 signatures when this article was published. The petition writes about previous unfortunate instances that have taken place at the lake. It reports that one included a young child at the age of nine who had drowned resulting in her family filing a lawsuit because "there were no signs indicating no swimming". They had also brought up an ever more dangerous lack of safety measures claiming, "that the drop-offs and underwater cliffs were not visible." There were petitions asking for signs to be put around the lake to allow for people to take cautionary action to avoid dangerous incidents. This particular petition although, is calling for no swimming at the lake at all as people asked to "Stop the Drowning at Lake Piru." This plea was petitioned to The United Water Conservation District, who owns Lake Piru. "Something needs to be done to prevent any further deaths at this lake; we can help make this change," the petition said.

While the details as to what happened to Rivera are hazy, it has been reported that the actress had rented a pontoon boat with her son, and had gone swimming. Rivera is presumed to be dead and is believed to have drowned. People referred to the lake as having a "tragic history" and an article written in 2000 in the Los Angeles Times claimed that "many drownings" have taken place at the lake. The publication reported that there was an incident where a 25-year-old victim had drowned only "10 feet from the shore" and that another had experienced the same fate even with a life jacket on. Many are hoping that no such accident reoccur especially at a location where more than a few incidents have taken place. The petition asks for people to "bring justice for all of those who lost their lives in these deadly waters."
