Shortly after legendary journalist Bob Woodward's new book, 'Rage', revealed that President Donald Trump deliberately downplayed the threat of the novel coronavirus in an interview with him back in March, former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared on Fox News to defend the POTUS, pointing her finger at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who paid a visit to Chinatown in San Francisco back in February, inviting other people to join her during the start of the pandemic. ''The President was one of the first people to talk about the coronavirus. It was in his State Of The Union address well before Nancy Pelosi was wandering the streets of Chinatown," Sanders said during the segment.

As a result, when Pelosi went on Twitter to attack Trump following the release of the controversial book, she was met with a barrage of negative comments from Trump supporters. "Trump and Republicans downplayed the deadly threat of the #coronavirus. Moscow Mitch decided to take a 'pause' rather than help the American people with a strategic plan. Don't be misled. Their failure and denial are costing lives," she wrote in a tweet on Wednesday, September 9, and in another tweet wrote,"#TrumpKnew about the deadly pandemic that has caused nearly 200,000 deaths in our country. He did nothing but distract from the crisis and get in the way of our efforts to save lives."

The Speaker, who recently created headlines after being pictured without a mask, getting her hair done at a San Francisco salon last month, was immediately called out for being a hypocrite as people reminded her of her visit to Chinatown for a photo op in the middle of a health crisis. Here are a few of the reactions:

"So when Pelosi downplayed it, it was OK...and she didn't get the Woodward treatment. Nancy Pelosi Visits San Francisco's Chinatown Amid Coronavirus Concerns"

"This Woodward thing is a joke. It was them who downplayed the virus, for MONTHS. Pelosi was begging people to come out to Chinatown. They were against the travel bans. Against shutting the border. They wanted to flood the country with millions of green card workers 2 months ago"

"She also told every one to visit Chinatown in March, she called banning Chinese tourism 'racist', prominent members of her caucus insisted masks don't work, and was holding impeachment hearings as the world was blowing up from Covid, soooooo"

"Kept quiet?? What in the f**k are you talking about? His actions to fight Covid started a solid month before you and your lying cronies gave it a second thought. You told folks to go to Chinatown! We see the lies. #TrumpPence2020"

"He didn't want to PANIC the people! They didn't have all the facts! THAT'S LEADERSHIP! He knew it was bad but nobody had died in USA. He immediately stopped travel from China & Europe! PELOSI WAS DANCING IN CHINATOWN. BIDEN CALLED IT XENOPHOBIC. YOU WERE AT AN IMPEACHMENT TRIAL!"

"Yeah, he really kept quiet with all of his DAILY briefings to the public, while you were busy inviting people to Chinatown. #PelosiPrivilege"

"Cool. Then I'm just gonna go to Chinatown and party like it's not a threat then. Oh wait. That was you who said I should do that. #WeRemember"

However, not everyone chose to attack Pelosi as many of them defended her, citing the fact that her agenda behind making an appearance in Chinatown was to make people understand that Chinese immigrants living in the US or Chinatown itself were not causing the virus. "You already know this but she was rightfully affirming that Chinatown wasn’t the source of the virus. Trump was being quite racist at the time towards Chinese folks after publicly slobbering all over Xi for months,'' one commented.

Another said: "She was saying there is no reason to avoid Chinatown because of coronavirus. Nothing was being shut down anywhere at the time so avoiding JUST Chinatown was about bias not science."

At the time, it was reported that Pelosi downplayed the racism issue, saying that while people are concerned about China, which was the epicenter of the novel coronavirus, the sentiment should not be applied to Chinatown. "But that shouldn’t be carried over to Chinatown in San Francisco," she said. "I hope that it’s not that. But all I can say is, 'I’m here.' We feel safe and sound, so many of us coming here." She added that there was no reason for tourists or locals to be staying away from the area because of coronavirus concerns."That’s what we’re trying to do today is to say everything is fine here," Pelosi said. "Come because precautions have been taken. The city is on top of the situation."
