TOKYO, JAPAN: The highly anticipated animated film 'My Oni Girl' has officially dropped on Netflix, bringing with it an enchanting and adventurous tale that follows the lives of Hiiragi Yatsuse (Kensho Ono) and Tsumugi (Miyu Tomita).
The film revolves around Hiiragi, a shy young boy, and Tsumugi, a spirited and spontaneous girl, as they navigate a world filled with mythical creatures and ancient secrets.
When Tsumugi requests Hiiragi's help in finding her lost mother on Earth, he agrees, and they set off on a journey together. However, Hiiragi and Tsumugi encounter a series of challenges that push them to their limits.
Tsumugi reunites with her mother after a journey filled with challenges
As Tsumugi and Hiiragi continue their journey, an unusual event occurs that changes the course of their adventure dramatically. In a moment of unexpected transformation, Hiiragi becomes an Oni, a mysterious and powerful creature with horns, just like Tsumugi.
Subsequently, Hiiragi is unexpectedly consumed by the Snow Gods. To his surprise, Hiiragi finds himself transported to the Hidden Village, a place shrouded in secrecy and steeped in ancient traditions.
Hiiragi is greeted by the inhabitants of the Hidden Village. Tsumugi finds Hiiragi and confines him in a food pantry before embarking on a mission to Oni Island. Her goal is to destroy a shrine housing the Spirit Mask, believing that by doing so, the Snow Gods will no longer eat Onis.
On the island, Tsumugi encounters her mother, who is wearing a mask. Tsumugi realizes that the one controlling the Snow Gods is actually her own mother.
Later on, the mask dissolves, and Tsumugi's mother, who was wearing it, is mysteriously transported to an unknown location within the depths of the Hidden Village.
When Tsumugi wakes up, she sees Hiiragi, and shortly after, a warmth begins to spread, causing the Snow Gods to start disappearing.
They are taken to the island where Tsumugi meets her father and mother. However, Hiiragi bids them goodbye, as he now has to meet his own family on Earth. Hiiragi's horns also disappear, indicating that he is no longer an Oni.
Tsumugi and Hiiragi reconnect after their adventures
As time passes, Hiiragi adjusts to living with his family on Earth, but despite being surrounded by loved ones, he can't erase the feeling of longing for Tsumugi. The memories of their adventures together linger in his mind, and he finds himself yearning for her company and the beautiful bond they shared.
One day, while walking, Hiiragi sees Tsumugi getting off the bus. She yells at him, asking why he didn't come to see her. He explains that the entrance to the Hidden Village never allowed him to go there.
Tsumugi realizes that only Oni can pass through the entrance, and she expresses her desire to share her feelings with him, hinting at a potentially happy ending.
Hiiragi's heart skips a beat at her words, realizing that this moment could mark the beginning of a new chapter for them. The film ends with a sense of hope and possibility, leaving viewers with a feeling of warmth and contentment.
