Released in 2020, 'Midnight Gospel' is a surreal animated science-fiction comedy series. The show takes you on a journey of some difficult questions. Clancy, a space podcaster travels through multiverse chatting up with beings and interviewing them about life and death. Though 'The Midnight Gospel' was short-lived, the very trippy series takes you through a journey of existential questions via conversations voiced by recognizable comedians like Maria Bamford, Stephen Root, and Natasha Leggero. The show definitely should be on your list as it is something very different from your usual animated series.

Originally created as a Manga written and illustrated by Mami Tsumura. This Manga adaptation into a Netflix animated series is a story about a 4-5 year old main protagonist Kotaro, who lives alone in a run-down building next to a manga artist Shin Karino. Although the series shows us the journey of Kotaro as a kid, who enrolls himself in a Kindergarden and lives alone, the series takes you through a tunnel of dark jokes, sarcasm, and reality. 'Kotaro Lives Alone' is strange, entertaining, and unexpectedly wholesome.

Love, Death & Robots (2019-present)

From underground gladiator fights to a tiny civilization growing inside a fridge and farmers wearing protective suits for protecting their land from giant creatures. Each episode of 'Love, Death & Robots' is created by a different set of creators and animation teams across the globe to absolutely staggering effect. Each episode is going to make you stop and ponder about it for a second.

Ever read or watched a story about a princess of a far land who is rebellious and a raging alcoholic? Well, cut that off of your list once you watch 'Disenchantment'.  Set in the fictional, medieval European kingdom of "Dreamland", the series follows the story of the adventurous, rebellious, alcoholic princess, Tiabeannie, her "personal demon" Luci, and their elf companion, Elfo. Over the course of four parts, the troupe explores Dreamland and other neighboring lands and uncovers thier a mythical conspiracy along with their own internal problems.

BoJack Horseman (2014  - 2020)

Creator: Raphael Bob-Waksberg

Cast: Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris

One of the most saddest, honest and funniest series - BoJack Horsemen takes a deeper dive in the life of a washed-up actor who has one chance at rejuvenation, that is if he doesn't fuck up. The series is a microscopic view of the Hollywood culture. The series examines about personal responsibility, trauma-responses, and how we hurt we love because of our childhood experiences.

The series got added in this list because of its beutifully imagined world of humans co-existing with animals in a weird but funny way. Kudos to the imagination of lead designer/executive producer Lisa Hanawalt. If you are someone who likes picking up on some of the most important questions about life, world and redemption, then this series should be first on your list.

As we come to the end of this article, the curated list is a must-watch because there is something unique about every title. All these series stand out from your general animated series genre. Watch these before our much-awaited animated series releases on 9 February 2023. Here's a trailer till then.
