Craving for a simple and eco-friendly way to improve the skiing experience? MountainFLOW Eco-Wax is what you need! A proprietary blend of five plant oils that can compete with petroleum-based waxes in limiting resistance and maintaining speed, North America’s first line of plant-based ski waxes is set to change the ball game of the wax industry.

If you didn't know, many expensive waxes contain toxic and carcinogenic fluorocarbons, harmful to wildlife and humans. On the latest episode of ‘Shark Tank’, an entrepreneur from Carbondale, Colorado, shows the Sharks how they can shred the slopes sustainably with his eco-friendly product. The official website claims that the wax not only water-based and non-toxic but biodegradable and non-hazardous too.

What is MountainFLOW Eco-Wax?

“Wax protects your bases from abrasive snow crystals, prolongs the life of your equipment, and provides a fast and smooth glide in all snow conditions...” the official website explains. First created in 2016, MountainFLOW Eco-Wax — made entirely from plant-based waxes — acts as a buffer between the snow surface and the bases of your skis or snowboard.

Rub-On Quick Wax is the easiest way to get into the waxing game. Just rub some wax onto the base of your skis or snowboard and you're good to go! Usually the wax lasts for 4-6 days depending on the snow conditions, but Quick Wax and Skin Wax will last for one day, which is the standard for any rub-on wax.

Here are the different kinds of wax and all you need to know about them:

Hot Wax: Ensures a better performance, smoothness and helps with a considerable improvement. What's more, it can also protect you from any damage  done by rocks and other substances.

Race Wax: Hydrophobic and durable, thanks to the exclusive MountainFlow Ceramic Nanotechnology, it adds a layer that repels water at the nanoparticle level. Did you know it is the easiest to apply? So what are you waiting for, grab the deal right away.

Quick Wax: This rub-on wax eliminates the snow and ice buildup and ensures a buttery smooth glide in all temperatures and all snow conditions. Yes, it's suitable for wet snow too.

Skin Wax: Backcountry skiers may prefer this more than anyone else. It repels water and prevents a buildup of ice and clumps of snow which helps improves the glide and comes in a spray and a rub-on. However, the rub-on is more effective and lasts longer.

Who is the founder?

Born and brought on skis in Carbondale, Colorado, Peter Arlein is the brainchild of MountainFLOW Eco-Wax. During his school days, he became a ski instructor and a member of the ski patrol. It was then that he closely understood the challenges that come with skiing. Later, he also got a Master's from the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

After digging deep into the outdoors of Alaska, he got back to Colorado and went back his first passion — skiing. In the beginning, he worked in the marketing area and couldn't fathom the damage traditional ski wax did to the skis. One day, an idea came to him and Peter started working on it from scratch in a shed in his back yard.

What is the cost?

On the official website, you can purchase the different kinds of wax and here is the price catalog:

Quick Wax: $15.95

Hot Wax: $18.50

Race Wax: $27.95

Where are they now?

Did you MountainFLOW Eco-Wax had a win-win since the beginning when it first got over 100 backers and raised over $6300 within 24 hours of its Kickstarter campaign. “Kickstarter campaign is officially over... we had 358 backers and raised $21.5k! The order has been placed with the manufacturer and your ski wax will show up just in time for opening day!” Arlein wrote in a caption when his product first grabbed eyeballs. Much later, it was also selected as a finalist for the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards 2020.

Now, MountainFLOW's new line of plant-based bike products is taking the industry by storm. For the future, the founder seems to have his eyes set on eco-friendly waxes. Shedding light on Race Wax, the official website read, “We just launched a line of plant-based, non-fluoro race wax. With MountainFLOW's exclusive Ceramic Nanotechnology, our new race wax is competitive with any non-fluoro race wax on the market. Shop Race Wax

They also have Bike Lube, Grease + Wash: “Similar to the ski wax situation, nearly all the products on the market are made from petroleum and whatever you put on your bike goes directly into the environment. Our bike products are biodegradable and work just as well as any comparable product on the market,” the website reads.

Who will steal the deal?

The product pitch seems fascinating and it might just be of interest to either Barbara Corcoran or Kevin O'Leary aka Mr Wonderful, don't you think so? On February 4, Barbara posted, “I love investing in entrepreneurs who know hardship, who have something to prove and are hungry for success. They're the ones I make a lot of money with.”

Sharing a new sneak peek, the official ‘Shark Tank’ handle wrote: “What do you think these #SharkTank products do? Drop your guesses below and find out on an all-new episode Friday!”
