EVENDALE, OHIO: Video showing a Catholic school teacher in Ohio grabbing up and shoving a young deaf youngster to the ground last Tuesday, December 6, has been horrifyingly exposed. A female instructor at the St Rita School for the Deaf in Evendale, Ohio, was shown in the video lifting a nine-year-old deaf student off the ground before stomping down the hallway and appearing to throw her to the ground.

Alexys Wells, the mother of the girl, claimed St Rita School only put her child's teacher on paid administrative leave because they insisted the incident was only a "minor incident." According to Wells, the teacher allegedly involved in the incident involving the deaf youngster is Cathy Girard, who goes by Miss Katie in the classroom, Daily Mail reported.

'She has not yet been sacked'

It's understood that Girard's position at the institution has not been terminated. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, which oversees the school, said in a statement that it was looking into the situation; however, the staff member has not yet been sacked. Hundreds of individuals who watched the disturbing CCTV footage online have prompted the police to launch their own inquiry.

Allegedly made the sign 'I'm done' as she left

A video taken inside the school depicted the teacher attempting to drag the kid down the hallway before yanking her forcibly to the floor and dragging her along the corridor. The teacher appears to throw the young third-grader to the ground at the end of the hallway. The girl is in the teacher's arms one moment, and the next she is on the ground with the teacher's arms thrown out in front of her. However, the video glitches at the precise moment of the alleged toss, making it impossible to tell what actually happened. As the female instructor wipes her hands together and rushes back up the hallway from where she came, the girl is seen lying at the feet of another teacher who is passing by, who appears shocked by what he has just witnessed. The angry teacher allegedly made the sign "I'm done" as she left.

Child demonstrated the act

Wells' daughter told her mother what had happened when she got home from school by acting out what had transpired to her that Tuesday. "My daughter came home from school on Tuesday and told me her teacher had thrown her," Wells stated to News Center 7. "She obviously does ASL, so she demonstrated it and she put her arms up under he and acted like she was picking herself up and then she threw herself to the ground," she added.

Wells claimed that the administration at the school didn't tell her about the incident until the following day and that when she faced them with the video later that week, they downplayed it. "I mean I was outraged,"she said. "I couldn't even speak at first because I didn't want to say the wrong thing," Wells added. She said that the school also did not provide a background explanation for the occurrence. "The school didn't really tell me. [The school president] said she was having issues with transitioning. Because of her brain disorder, she does have issues with transitioning between subject to subject or task to task," Wells stated to WCPO

'St Rita's is pretty big deal'

Wells claimed that despite her rage at the circumstance, she did not want the school to experience any severe consequences. "I mean St Rita's is pretty big deal," She said to News Center 7. "The school definitely does mean a lot to the deaf community and southern Ohio in general," Wells added. She further stated that a different teacher was in charge of her daughter this week as she returned to school. The mother said that she shared the graphic video on social media out of fury over the child's treatment and a desire to warn others.

'They still tried to make it out like it wasn’t that serious'

The mother wrote on social media, "So this happened at my daughters school… that is her teacher who apparently got irritated with her and thought this was acceptable. Then to make matters even better, I wasn’t notified until the day after the incident and it was presented to me like it wasn’t that serious. So I went to watch this footage today and was speechless. They still tried to make it out like it wasn’t that serious and said that she was on administrative leave but come to find out the whole time I was there, she was still in the classroom. Then to top things off when I said I wanted her put in a new class they said they didn’t think that was a good idea because my daughter doesn’t do well with transitioning. Mind y’all she is deaf and a child with a disability that goes to an all deaf school that specializes with children with disabilities."

The outraged mom said that "there is no excuse" regarding how the child was treated in class.
