Who is Molly Steinsapir? Girl, 12, 'unable to wake up' after bike crash as mom Kaye Ellen raises $16K in funds

Molly Steinsapir, 12, went through a terrible bike accident on January 31, 2021, and sustained a traumatic brain injury, following which she was hospitalized and is now receiving treatment.

A GoFundMe campaign was soon started to help the family get funds that can be accessed, whether at home or at the hospital, to order meals and have other necessities delivered and of course, for Molly's continued recovery. Updating on the platform's forum, Adriana Vesci, who is the organizer of Molly's fundraiser called the child's doctors 'some of the very best physicians in the country at UCLA'. The initiative was started after a discussion with Molly's mother, Kaye, but although the fundraiser has so far raised $16,914 from over 290 donors, Kaye said on February 14 that her daughter, who is in the ICU, is still unconscious. "Molly has been unable to wake up, although all the sedatives are gone. Her EEG is not showing activity. The doctors will do one more exam tomorrow. If Molly is non-responsive, they will say that she is no longer with us. Please pray with everything in your heart for a miracle," she said in a heartbreaking tweet.

Who is Molly Steinsapir?

Molly Steinsapir is the daughter of Santa Monica-based attorney Jonathan Steinsapir, who is currently a partner at the Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert (KWIKA) LLP and Kaye Ellen. Jonathan is known for representing the Estate of Michael Jackson in a jury trial defending claims by American record producer Quincy Jones that the Estate had underpaid royalties to Jones after the King of Pop's tragic death in 2009. Molly's mother Kaye is also a lawyer. She works at Bryan Cave, LLP, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Her mom wrote on Twitter: "Please. Please. Please. Everyone PRAY for my daughter Molly. She has been in an accident and suffered a brain trauma. She’s unconscious in ICU. Please RT and PRAY". A social media user calling Michael Jackson's fans says: "This young lady, who is 12 years old, is the daughter of Jonathan Steinsapir. She was involved in a horrific bicycle accident and needs the #MJFam's prayers. Please pray for her. The #MJFam supports Molly and prays for a speedy recovery. " 

Kaye is also a writer and a breast cancer survivor. Kaye tweeted a picture of a copy of George Orwell''s 'Animal Farm', saying that "Molly has been a vegetarian and passionate animal lover since she was a toddler." Describing the things Molly loved, Kaye posted a picture of her daughter dressed as Jasmine from Disney's 'Alibaba', saying "Musical theatre, swimming in the ocean, playing with her dog and cat, sleepovers with her best friend, so many things. She’s truly a wonderful girl." Responding to a post by the CEO of Hawaiian Magic Cream Hawaii Shira who mentioned Molly in their prayers, Kaye posted a picture of Molly and her brothers at the beach. "We visit the Islands every year. Molly loves the ocean. We have many happy memories of our trips there," she said. "I’m watching the impeachment proceedings next to her today. Molly has an intense interest in government and politics and would not have missed watching. She would be explaining it all to her friends and classmates," she said in a February 11th post.

Molly has two younger brothers, Nate and Eli. Kaye says the three are Star Wars 'superfans', in a response to Mark Hamill liking one of her tweets on Molly. "Thank you for thinking of [her]", she said. The 12-year-old is currently being treated by Dr. Anthony Wang, an MD in neurosurgery at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. On February 1, Kaye tweeted saying that Molly will be in the ICU for a minimum of ten days.
