In what came as a groundbreaker in an industry that was ridden with stereotypes, when 'Modern Family' first aired in 2009, it turned heads by introducing us to a gay couple with utmost normalcy.

The creators were lauded by fans and critics alike for daring to show something so unconventional which came to accepted by the audience easily.

Soon, Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) became highly relatable among the LGBTQ community, whose relationship was taken further with a baby story arc.

All this was adorable and high appreciated until the series reached a point when the spark between the couple began to wear out as they barely displayed any form of affection towards each other.

While the lack of PDA became one of their weaknesses, as the series progressed and their daughter Lily Pritchett Tucker (Aubrey Anderson Emmons) started to grow up, viewers observed that they clearly lacked parenting skills.

Although the series bought them enough time to work on their roles, they only became lousier in the eyes of viewers.

Only an episode before concluding, 'Modern Family' Season 11 once again took fans by surprise when Mitch and Cam decide to adopt a second child. However, this news hasn't been so well received by the audience who strongly feel that the couple can never make for adequate parents.

Expressing disappointment in the latest twist, one fan noted on Reddit, "Uneven episode for me, but I am glad they finally addressed Mitch and Cam being absentee parents. That is, they mean well, and they try to do what they think is the right thing. But by and large, they are too preoccupied with themselves to act on their intention. Lily will be raising her stepbrother while her parents act all exhausted."

Meanwhile, another noted, "Well, in early seasons, I think they were good parents, especially Cam. He used to take care of a lot of Lily and he spent a lot of time with her, he was really connected to her. But after Season 4, they started to behave like they gave up from her. I was so sad when their adoption in Season 3 finals failed. I don't think they should get another child in season 11."

Although Lily has always been aloof, fans feel the responsibility of taking care of Mitch and Cam’s new child will be dumped on her, owing to her parents' unresolved issues.

'Modern Family' Season 11 finale airs on April 8 on ABC.
