The fall finale of the first season of 'Mixed-ish' on ABC sees young Rainbow Johnson celebrate Christmas with her family for the first time — on the commune, her family had celebrated the winter solstice with a vegan feast.

However, when Bow, Santamonica and Johan see a Christmas play at school, the kids are confused and ask their parents, Paul and Alicia about it. Though Paul and Alicia explain that different communities have different ways of celebrating the holidays, they seem to want to hold on to their commune traditions.

Meanwhile, Alicia is stressed out since the holidays will have both Paul's father, Harrison and her own parents meeting each other after a long time and their grandkids for the first time, so she wants everything to be perfect. Alicia's most worried about her own mother. Both granddads are also competing to be the kids' favorite grandparents, showing off what they can do.

Ironically, Paul and Alicia believe that religion is a personal choice, but through the episode trying to make the choice for their children in trying to celebrate winter solstice instead of Christmas. When Alicia's mother brings in the Christmas decorations, Paul and Alicia struggle to reconcile with their kids wanting to celebrate Christmas. Of course, this unleashes Harrison's competitive side and the Johnson household goes a little overboard with the Christmas spirit.

Episode 10 of 'Mixed-ish' just shows that the parents are struggling just as their kids to adjust to their lives outside the commune. We also see different members of the family clash on their personal beliefs during a holiday they are trying to celebrate together. By the end of the episode, Alicia and her mother manage to make up as the former decides to let her kids choose what they want.

And like most problems on 'Mixed-ish', the family members solve their issues by talking them out, which is one of the most refreshing aspects of the show. Finally, the family reunites to celebrate family and healing as well — of course, presents were involved.

'Mixed-ish' will return with new episodes on January 7, 2020.
