MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Officials launched an investigation into the tragic deaths of a woman and her seven-year-old daughter, whose bodies were found in Wisconsin Lake on Thursday, December 8. Khalilah S Brister, 25, and her daughter Tyrielle Jefferson were found in a car submerged in Northridge Lake, located just across from the former Northridge Mall at North 76th Street and West Brown Deer Road.

A report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office stated that Brister died by suicide while Jefferson's manner of death was reported as a homicide according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. As per WTMJ-TV, the two deaths came hours after deputies went to investigate a suspicious 911 call from a suicidal woman who "threatened to drive her vehicle into the lake with her daughter inside." The caller hung up as they were arriving at the spot since it was believed the duo had left the area and were on their way to another jurisdiction, according to the publication.

As per PEOPLE, authorities in the vicinity investigated the location and discovered nothing. Brister's mother, mother, Jackie, contacted 911 the same morning to report that she had not spoken to her daughter since 4.30pm on Wednesday, December 7, when she stole her car and wallet. "I told them she wasn't right, you know? That had never happened before. I told them that, and their concern was 'We'll find your car,'" Jackie reportedly said.

Jackie also spoke of a phone call she made with Tyrielle's other grandma, who stated a woman claimed to have seen the two before they died. "The other grandmother called me and said, 'Jackie, there's a lady on my phone. She was down by Bradford Beach.' She said Tyrielle came running up to her and said her mother was trying to kill her, and the lady said she went back and talked to my daughter and my daughter said she was tired. She just wanted to go into the water," Jackie reportedly said.

Following the discovery of the bodies, Jackie slammed police officials and questioned why they did not issue an Amber Alert when she originally reported her daughter and granddaughter missing. "I don't think the sheriff took it seriously when we called Wednesday night and was talking about her going into the water. Why wasn't an Amber Alert issued then? I'm very angry because now I don't have my daughter. I don't get to see my granddaughter grow up," she reportedly said.
