QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA: A woman is gaining flak online for her ‘embarrassing’ café trick intended to save hundreds of dollars a month. Milly Rose Bannister, the owner of GRLKND, a company that focuses on mental health, took to her TikTok handle to share a video of herself taking out avocado from a Coles bag and slicing it before spreading it over an egg toast that she ordered at a café.

Bannister captioned the video with 'Bring your own avocado, thank me later.’ She said this trick helped her save a lot of money and shared it online to get  attention but ended up getting dragged, with many calling her 'cheap' and 'embarrassing.'

"There's a big difference between being savvy and cheap," said a user. "Eat at home if you have an issue paying café or restaurant prices," another commented. Several gave her advice to not eat out if she was struggling to pay their prices."If you can’t afford to eat there, don’t go," said one user, adding "You are taking away a table for someone else."

Reacting to the TikTok video, the owner of the local café, where Bannister used to visit often, said she "always" did that. Not just social media users but even Madeline Ward, a hospitality expert who has worked in the industry for more than 10 years, said she was extremely shocked by Bannister's "absurd" behavior.

"I feel I am fortunate that in over a decade of working in the hospitality industry, I have not seen such behavior,' Ward told The Daily Mail. She added, "It is absolutely absurd that someone would find it acceptable to bring their own avocado to a café. Times are tough at the moment so please support businesses.'

Bannister responded, "Please keep in mind: this café is thriving. The owner lies. I don’t always do it, only [at his café] when I’m in Coles before." Shooting back at the café, owner, she added that "she had already spent $180 [at the venue] this week. "I think it's better to spend $14 at a café than to spend $0 - and I hate sitting at home and cooking my own eggs," she said.

However, social media users did not accept her response. "No one at all does this -- it's extremely rude," said a user while another added, "This is extremely cringeworthy."
Some took a more sarcastic tone and said, "The ultimate tip is to bring your own toast and eggs as well. At this point, why not cook the whole meal yourself and just show up and demand a table?"
