Mike Pence, NOT Trump, called in National Guard to Capitol, Internet praises him for being the 'better man'
Vice President Mike Pence was the one who helped mobilize members of the DC National Guard to the Capitol building on Wednesday, January 6. Violence and chaos erupted at the US Capitol building and had started to escalate when Pence called in the National Guard, as per a source familiar with the move. Over the past year, Trump had been very keen on deploying the National Guard whenever violence broke out during protests, but he was reluctant to do so when a mob of Trump supporters broke into the building on Capitol Hill on January 6.
It was Pence who played the key role in calling in the National Guard and urged them to move quickly to prevent any more damage and control the situation. Pence has received a lot of praise for taking charge and doing what was needed. The White House National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien issued a statement where he praised Pence and called him a "genuinely fine and decent man".
O'Brien said, "I just spoke with Vice President Pence. He is a genuinely fine and decent man. He exhibited courage today as he did at the Capitol on 9/11 as a Congressman. I am proud to serve with him."
Many social media users also praised Pence for his decision. One such user shared, "He’s doing the right thing, just as he did when he told Trump he couldn’t overturn the election. Pence is redeeming himself." Another user added, "Trump did not provide protection for the Capitol Building Complex. This failure to defend our lawmakers is on him. Mike Pence had to deploy the National Guard. Trump didn't lift a finger. Trump's actions are criminal! Congress must act tonight! He needs to be removed immediately."
Yet another user shared, "Today @VP Mike Pence showed leadership as he called for back up by requesting the National Guard while the Capitol was under attack by insurgents. Meanwhile, @POTUS Donald Trump tweeted more misinformation on Twitter, to the point that his account was suspended. #25thAmendmentNow."

"Today the evil Mike Pence proved he is a better man than Trump. Pence called the national guard when trump wouldn’t. Pence sees the world differently than us but luckily he still sees America’s democracy being respected and for that, and that alone, I show him my respect," another user commented. Yet another who echoed the same sentiments and said, "Thank you Mike Pence for ordering the National Guard to the Capitol to restore order. TRUMP did not do a single thing today except praise those who raided the capitol and cried about being 'shadow banned' on twitter."

We had earlier reported that Republican Senator Mitt Romney slammed President Donald Trump on Wednesday after the latter's encouragement to his supporters for disrupting the peaceful power transition. Romney called it "an unprecedented attack against our democracy". "We gather today due to a selfish man's injured pride and the outrage of his supporters whom he has deliberately misinformed for the past two months and stirred to action this very morning," Romney wrote.
