Is Microsoft buying TikTok after talks with Trump? Angry Internet doesn't want 'social network for pedophiles'

Some of the Internet users have noted that they won't be able to trust Microsoft with their personal data if they acquire TikTok

After days of talks regarding the ban on TikTok in the US, reports are suggesting that Microsoft is acquiring the operation of the Chinese app in the US region. Microsoft issued a statement on their official website on August 3 and said that they've decided to "explore a purchase of TikTok" following a conversation with President Donald Trump. 

The statement reads, "Following a conversation between Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and President Donald J Trump, Microsoft is prepared to continue discussions to explore a purchase of TikTok in the United States." Soon after announcing their interest in the app, Microsoft added in their following statement, "Microsoft fully appreciates the importance of addressing the President’s concerns. It is committed to acquiring TikTok subject to a complete security review and providing proper economic benefits to the United States, including the United States Treasury."

The multinational technology company is looking forward to a discussion with TikTok's parent company ByteDance in the coming weeks and it plans on finalizing the deal by September 15, 2020. 

Microsoft's announcement has given rise to concerns for obvious reasons, as many continue to feel the app needs to be banned for good owing to security issues. Initially, when Trump's administration had announced that they were looking into banning TikTok with other Chinese applications, they had stated "support and cooperate with intelligence work controlled by the Chinese Communist Party" as the reason behind the move. 

A significant number of Internet users were seen speaking in favor of the government's move, as TikTok had gained an unpopular reputation by becoming a breeding ground for pedophiles and other Chinese spyware.

After Microsoft showed interest in taking over TikTok's operations, Internet users quickly took to Twitter to remind the company what a "terrible idea" that was, urging the organization to drop the plan. One tweeted, "Don't buy this s**t... We don't want social network for pedophiles."

Meanwhile, some of them have noted that they won't be able to trust Microsoft with their personal data if they acquire TikTok. "Can't trust m*cros*ft with tiktok after discovering after seven months of attempting to recover sk*pe data that it just.... poofed into thin f****ng air.... some of the most pivotal moments of my life just randomly gone lmao," one tweeted.

Some of the Twitter users are suspecting Trump's alleged involvement in Microsoft's attempt to buy TikTok, pointing at personal benefits. One tweeted, "And when it's discovered that the Trumps & their Goon Squad all have MAJOR stocks in both Microsoft & TikTok, who's going to be surprised? This is just like Trump's HCQ Kodak scam. He's just trying to make a lot of profitable deals for himself before November."

Another user tweeted, "So, Trump calls for the ban of TikTok and it becomes headline news, conveniently as MS is in talks of buying the app. In return, more Americans download the app than ever before and MS comes out as the savior of American data. Smart business move for MS."

Trump's administration is yet to respond to Microsoft's statement.
