WOODHAVEN, MICHIGAN: Three Mustang Shelby GT500s were stolen from Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, shortly after 7 pm, Woodhaven Police Department reported on the radio. Later, when police discovered the three Mustangs in Brownstone Township close to Sibley, the situation escalated into a frantic chase with one vehicle eventually running out of fuel.

Brownstown police officers spotted the three stolen cars traveling northbound on I-75 and attempted to pull them over, but all three sped off. Then, one of the Mustangs ran out of fuel on an interstate in southwest Detroit. Officers were able to keep a tight eye on that Mustang. As they tried to approach it, the driver jumped out of the passenger seat and over a retaining wall of a freeway in order to avoid being caught.

The suspect, who according to Fox 2 Detroit, was just 14 years old, stepped out and jumped over the bridge, falling 25 to 30 feet into a deserted yard below. He was taken to a nearby hospital and did not sustain any life-threatening injuries. His mother was notified about him and was turned to her care.

As per Fox News Digital, Brownstown Police Lt Andrew Starzec stated that it was currently too soon to determine whether the thefts that took place on October 12 night were a part of a much bigger auto theft ring that had previously targeted the same assembly facility and others in the Detroit area.

Starzec stated, "I know that there were four stolen Mustangs out of the same lot the night before. That will be part of our investigation to see if it was that crew or a different one." When discussing the Mustang that the officers found, he added, "These Mustangs are very expensive. The one we recovered had a sticker of $113,000." The investigation surrounding the theft is underway.

Earlier on September 13, officers in Woodhaven were on the hunt for the suspects after they allegedly left the same assembly factory in 12 to 15 brand-new Mustangs, according to Fox 2 Detroit. Police claim that the new Mustangs were taken sometime between two and three in the morning on September 13 and that two of the Mustangs were later retrieved. The Mustangs were stolen from a Woodhaven parking lot, which is adjacent to the Flat Rock factory, according to FOX 2's Charlie Langton.
