Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis said during a press conference that Jacob was at the apartment building for a party. McGinnis said, "We know that the victim was interested in purchasing a firearm. Whether that was in the area he lived or in this area — [we] don't want to get into that level of detail at this time."
He added, "I know for certain he was here for a party. What occurred from that point until where we are now, these are the answers we need to get for the family."
Jacob was just days away from joining the National Guard. He was last seen with his family on a boat on Saturday, July 23, when he informed the family that he was going to a party in Detroit that night. According to the Police Commander, when Jacob didn't return by Sunday, his family tracked his phone location and found his car and mobile in Dearborn Heights.
On the evening of July 24, Jacob's father reportedly received an anonymous phone call, which said that Jacob was in the basement of an apartment building on Warren Avenue in Detroit, the police commander said in the press conference recorded by FOX 2.
Authorities rushed to the spot after the phone call and found Jacob's body. The police chief said, "his life was cut short, and our detectives are working diligently to identify the offender in this case and bring justice to the family." He further added that Jacob was with his friends at the party before he was found dead.

Sadie believes her son was lured into the party because of his new gun and graduation money. Sadie said, "they stole his shoes off of his feet."
