If there is anyone who can remind us to do Mother's Day the right way, it is  Michelle Obama. The former FLOTUS shared a heartwarming Instagram picture of herself and her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, while enjoying a relaxing boat ride along the canals in Venice, Italy.

She also reminisced about her childhood and captioned the picture, "With #MothersDayjust a couple of days away, I find myself thinking a lot about the way my mother raised me. And even though our family was crammed into a tiny apartment, one of the greatest gifts she gave me was the freedom to explore and develop into my own person."

Obama was born in Chicago to Fraser Robinson, a city water plant employee, and Marian Robinson, a secretary.

She also added, "For instance, even though we didn’t have much money, she and my dad cobbled enough money together to send me on a high-school trip to Paris, which opened up the world to me in so many ways."

The 'Becoming' author also spoke of her daughters, writing," And now that I’m raising kids of my own, I wanted to pass that lesson on to my own girls. I’ve been so fortunate to be able to travel with Sasha and Malia all across the country and around the world—experiences my mother never would have dreamed of back when I was their age."

Obama continued: "But though the settings may be different, the message is the same, and it’s one I hope mothers everywhere pass on to their daughters—in seeking out new perspectives and reaching outside of our comfort zones, we can discover more about ourselves."

Sasha, who was the youngest person to ever live in the White House, moved in when her father was elected as the 44th US president will reportedly be attending the University of Michigan while Malia began attending Harvard University in the fall of 2017.

The former First Lady has been amping up the Mother's Day feelings this year as she also shared a never before seen picture with her grandmother LaVaughn Dolores Johnson, great-aunt Robbie, Czerny Brasuell, who mentored her at Princeton University, and Eleanor Kaye Wilson, who is Sasha and Malia Obama's godmother while giving them a heartfelt shoutout as the women who 'often go unrecognized' on Thursday.
