Representative Michael San Nicolas has landed himself in trouble after he and the members of the Guam National Guard visited the office of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday. Nicolas took the extreme step after Greene “falsely” called Guam a foreign land. Guam is a US island territory in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific, and is distinguished by tropical beaches.

The incident took place on February 27 when Greene was speaking about the country's political system at the Conservative Political Action Conference. While giving a speech, Green mistakenly referred to Guam as foreign land and said, “I'm a regular, normal person. And I wanted to take my regular – normal person, normal, everyday American values, which is: We love our country. We believe our hard-earned tax dollars should just go for America – not for what, China, Russia, the Middle East, Guam – whatever, wherever.”

Social media slammed the first-time Congresswoman for being so ignorant and called her out for doing. However, the Delegate to the U.S. House Guam At-large District, Michael San Nicolas, did not leave any stone unturned in making Greene believe that Guam is very much a part of the US.

Before getting into the specifics, let's take a look at who is Michael San Nicolas.

Who is Michael San Nicolas?

Born on January 30, 1981, Michael Franklin Quitugua San Nicolas is a Guamanian Democratic Party politician, currently serving as the Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives for Guam's at-large congressional district. His paternal grandfather Enrique Santos San Nicolas served in the Guam Congress and his maternal grandfather is former Speaker of the Guam Legislature Franklin Joseph Arceo Quitugua.

San Nicolas ran for senator in the Guam Legislature as a Democrat in 2012. He advanced to the general election and was placed 5th with 16,625 votes and won a seat in the Guam legislature. He served three consecutive terms before becoming Guam's At-Large Congressional Delegate in the year 2019.

However, since 2019, San Nicolas has been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The delegate has been accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a woman on his congressional staff.

Nicolas along with Guam National Guard marched to Rep. Greene’s office

Led by Guam’s only congressional delegate, San Nicolas, the group marched to the office of Rep. Greene at the US Capitol. Nicolas and the members of the Guam National Guard met with one of Greene’s aides, who told them that the Representative had gone out for some important work. One of Greene’s aides came out and met the members of the National Guard and thanked them for putting their lives on the line for the people of America. The video went viral on social media and was seen by more than 840,000 viewers.

Internet asks why guardsmen are being used for political purposes

Social media users accused the Delegate from Guam of using the National Guard for a “photo-op” and asked the government why are guardsmen being used as a political prop. One user said, “Staged media op is now news.” Another user said, “Rep San Nicolas, please don’t use the US military for your political stunts. It shows total disrespect for the armed services.” One of the users blamed the Democrats for using the military for “political purposes.”

“Guam Del. Michael F.Q. San Nicolas is currently under a House Ethics Committee investigation for finances and an alleged affair with his acting CoS, but I'm sure that will get as much play as this ridiculous stunt the Guam Guard members should not have had anything to do with,” another user said.

Another user, who claimed to be from Guam, slammed Nicolas for not caring about the people of Guam. He said, “And when will San Nicolas be tossed in jail? He is evil for all his people. so sad. He has GOT to go. I hope that then next congressperson for Guam actually cares about their own people, let alone the Constitution.”

Another one noted, “Imagine if this was Ted Cruz and the TX National Guard visiting AOC. The media would be going nuts about what inappropriate this is. But on this, there will be crickets.” One user noted, “This is completely inappropriate. In fact, it's outrageous.”
