Documentary filmmaker and activist Michael Moore is on the wrong side of Twitter. He has been on the receiving end of online backlash after tweeting about the Boulder gunman who is accused of killing 10 people.

Taking to Twitter following the March 22 grocery store massacre, Moore referenced the alleged mass shooter and said that the suspected Boulder shooter "truly assimilated into beloved American culture." Ahmad Alissa has been charged with 10 counts of murder by cops in Colorado for allegedly barging into a King Soopers with an AR-15-style rifle.

"The life of Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa shows that people can come from all over the world and truly assimilate into our beloved American culture," Moore tweeted, accompanied by a photograph of the Statue of Liberty.

According to his since-deleted Facebook page,  Alissa was "born in Syria 1999" before he "came to the USA in 2002."

Moore, who is a gun control advocate, has invited the wrath of social media users with his latest comments. Calling him out for his tweet, many social media users are pointing out that it might just be a bit too early for him to make such jokes. Directly criticising him without mincing any words, a user tweeted, "There are sad, miserable, people and then there is Michael Moore."

"Michael Moore supports gun violence and terrorism," one user tweeted. Moore is best known for his award-winning film on gun violence, 'Bowling for Columbine' which spotlighted "the proliferation of guns" in America. "Did you really tweet this? We allowed him refuge in our country & he repaid us by murdering our own people. This is most heartless tweet I’ve seen in a long time," Trump superfan and MAGA activist Scott Presler replied to the filmmaker.

Another user tweeted, "Michael Moore is a disgusting monster. For the record, he doesn't appear in public without a team of ARMED SECURITY." Users started asking about the filmmaker's relevance in today's day and age.

"What even is Michael Moore's target audience now, leftists don't like him anymore and libs won't forgive him for his 2016 and Obama years." Another user tweeted along similar lines, "A Michael Moore tweet feels like a time capsule from the 1990s at this point. Took me a second there for me to get what he was trying to say."

A user tweeted, "I hate people who live in America and hate America. You know nothing about what the world is like ‘out there’. I’m an immigrant who made it here. No society is perfect. No country is. But we all flock to US because it is better than most/all. Stop bashing America."

Speaking about the tragedy, President Joe Biden said, "I don’t need to wait another minute - or another hour - to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future. We should also ban assault weapons in the process."
