Who are Michael Brock and Michael Paul Thomas? Cops allegedly helped Murdaugh family to hinder probe in Mallory Beach case
HAMPTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA: Ever since Paul Murdaugh was charged with three felony counts of boating under the influence, the entire Murdaugh family didn’t leave any stone unturned to get their boy out of this situation. The Murdaugh family was one of the most influential families in Hampton County and was considered to be bigger than the law as well. So, it doesn’t come as a shock that the family was given special treatment when the investigation began and was allowed to go to the crime scene while Mallory’s parents were told to stay away from it.
John Marvin Murdaugh, brother of Alex Murdaugh, was even allowed to get the crashed boat towed out of the crime scene. However, the revelations made by attorney Mark Tinsley seem to have created a lot of impact on the minds of the viewers. Tinsley is the lawyer of Mallory Beach’s family and exposed a couple of names that helped Alex Murdaugh in saving his son from the interrogation.

While revealing what happened right after the accident took place, Tinsley said that there were 20 different law enforcement officers present at the scene, and “not one thought to put Paul Murdaugh in front of their car to question him about what happened.” According to Tinsley, the police officers were scared to question him because of the connections that the law enforcement authorities had to Alex and the Murdaugh family.
“It is not an indication that there was incompetence, because you couldn’t have that much incompetence. What you don’t realize at that moment is the connections that those people had to the Murdaughs and to Alex,” Tinsley said during a Netflix documentary titled 'Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal'. He also took the names of two people who helped the Murdaughs in saving Paul.
Who are Michael Brock and Michael Paul Thomas?
According to Tinsley, the law enforcement authorities assigned Michael Brock as the lead investigator for the first 24 hours by the Department of Natural Resources and had close connections with the Murdaughs. Right after the accident, Anthony Cook, Mallory’s boyfriend, told Michael Brock that “Paul Murdaugh killed his girlfriend.” Shockingly, that audio recording was “not in evidence.”
On the other hand, there was another officer named Michael Paul Thomas, a known DNR agent, who helped Paul in getting out of so much trouble. Attorney Mark Tinsley continued talking about Thomas who was considered to be John Marvin Murdaugh’s “best friend”.
He also opened up about the phone records in which it was clearly visible how many times Thomas and John had a conversation with each other during the investigation.
“I have phone records. And the night of the boat crash and the days after that, John Marvin Murdaugh made numerous calls to Michael Paul Thomas. The Department of Natural Resources documents indicate that Michael Paul Thomas also called Austin Pritcher, the officer who went to the hospital to interview the kids that were present on the boat that day,” Tinsley said while showing the documents.
Shockingly, the call records also proved that the investigators kept on calling the Murdaughs during the investigation, but never called Phillip and Renee Beach to talk about their daughter’s tragic death.
According to Morgan Doughty, the ex-girlfriend of Paul Murdaugh, Thomas was “Alex Murdaugh’s b***h”.
Did Mallory’s family ever receive a call from DNR or investigators?
Sadly, the DNR or any law enforcement authorities never called Mallory’s family to tell them what had happened after the fatal boat crash. “None of the law enforcement, nobody ever called us,” said Mallory’s mother.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Alex and Randolph tried everything to create confusion and saved Paul from being interrogated.
