Michael Babb: California man who went missing more than week ago while going for fishing, found dead near dam
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: A man who went missing for more than a week has been found dead near a dam, authorities in California have announced.
Michael Babb, 57, was discovered dead “on land near the base of Englebright Dam” on Thursday morning, November 30, according to a news release from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office (NCSO).
Babb “was last known to be at the Narrow's boat ramp/day use area” before his disappearance, per the NCSO’s original bulletin.
Babb was 'going fishing' prior to his disappearance
A friend told authorities that Babb said he was “going fishing in [the] early morning hours” of November 23, the sheriff’s office said in its latest update. According to The Sacramento Bee, Babb was reported missing to the Wheatland Police Department.
A park ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers located Babb’s vehicle “parked near the lake’s Narrows Boat Launch and Day Use area” around 1.30 pm local time on Wednesday, per authorities.
NCSO joined the search a short time later and teamed up with multiple other agencies as they searched for the missing man, according to the sheriff’s office.
Crews with the NCSO and Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team located the body the next day.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death
An autopsy will be performed to determine Babb’s cause of death, according to the NCSO, ABC 10 reported. “The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Michael Babb,” they said in Thursday’s release.

The critical nature of Alvarez's medical condition, which could result in confusion or disorientation, has apparently escalated the urgency of the situation.
Authorities are appealing to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any potential sightings of Alvarez.
Phoenix Police received a missing person report for Antonio Alvarez around 7.30 pm on November 21, as informed by his family.
According to 12News, Alvarez, who has been diagnosed with dementia, left his home without his mobile phone and wallet, leaving him without any form of identification and making it impossible for his family to contact him.
Antonio is a 60-year-old man, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He has gray hair and dark brown eyes. When last seen, he was dressed in an olive green shirt, jean shorts, and white socks, but was not wearing any shoes.
