Memphis Mall shooting: 2 injured, one in 'critical condition' after gunfire erupts during fight
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: Two people were hospitalized after a shooting at Wolfchase Galleria Mall, 2700 N Germantown Parkway in Memphis, and one is in critical condition. According to Memphis police, officers were called to the shooting at 4.51 pm Thursday, February 16. Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a fight between two groups.
In a tweet, police shared, “Two male shooting victims were located on the scene. One male victim was transported to ROH and is listed in critical condition. The second male shooting victim was transported to St Francis Hospital in Bartlett by a private Vehicle. A female was also transported from the scene to St Francis Hospital. She suffered from a medical episode. Both people at St Francis are listed as non-critical."

One person detained after shooting
The police added that the area is secure following the shooting and that it is unknown if the suspects and victims knew each other previously. Memphis police spokesman Louis Brownlee told it is unknown how they were shot, reports US News. He added that police have detained one person at the mall and also applauded the mall employees for following evacuation instructions. “Employees at the mall did exactly what they were taught to do,” Brownlee said.
Mall shooting in El Paso, Texas
The shooting comes a day after a shooting at Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday evening, February 15, that left one person dead and three others wounded. Two male suspects were arrested, following the shoot, reports CBS. The mall is next to the Walmart where 23 people were fatally shot four years ago on August 3, 2019. Patrick Crusius, 24, pleaded guilty on February 8 to 90 charges in connection with the mass shooting, one of the deadliest in US history, reports USA Today. According to the Gun Violence Archive, more than 70 mass shootings took place across the United States in 2023.
