Melissa Todd, a British woman, is coming to the aid of confused college-goers who have ever considered dropping out to do something more enterprising. She presents as an example of someone who appears to have done well for herself after dropping out from one of the prestigious educational institutes in the world. Not all hope was lost for her when she decided she didn't want an education but wanted to get up on a pole and entertain people. It's been a decade and a half when Todd stopped being an Oxfonian and she makes more than $100 per hour - all of it from men who fly to her from around the world to be caned by her.

Todd believes being in the business has worked well for her and she regrets not pursuing it earlier. An example of another woman who did well in the stripper business is Cardi B. The rapper was studying at a university and used to be employed at a deli in Tribeca before she started making music. She was fired by her manager who suggested she apply to be a stripper at a place down the street. Cardi took that advice and even said that it turned out to be a positive experience for her, and not just in one way. "It really saved me from a lot of things," she said in an interview. In another, she spoke about dropping out from uni to be a full-time stripper because she couldn't make ends meet back then. However, in the same interview Offset's wife said she aims to go back to school and "it's never too late to make your dreams come true" referring to her original dream of becoming an educator.

'It's the most wonderful job in the world'

Todd does not regret leaving Oxford and in an interview said she went into a shell while she was there. “I’d spent so much time and energy trying to get there, to find it wasn’t what I’d hoped. [It] made me depressed and tearful," she told British Times. “I was intensely shy and if you are shy and don’t come from privilege you’re going to struggle at Oxford.” Todd had taken politics, philosophy, and economics and a year after studying these at Oxford she knew she wanted a break. At around the same time, money was short and to make a quick buck she took up a job as a stripper at a London club and the rest is history.

Getting up on the pole helped Todd breakaway from the shyness that overcame her at Oxford. “You feel in charge of your own identity and image,” she said. “If you’re up there and the lights are on you, it’s all about you and you just can’t get enough attention.” All this made Todd realize she didn't want to go back to Oxford and she continued working as a stripper for a decade before making a switch to become a dominatrix. “By the time I was 30, I thought I didn’t want to become a ridiculously ancient stripper so I thought I’d hang up my g-string and pick up a crop and start whacking people instead,” Todd explained to Kent Online. Todd has held the cane for 15 years and tended to wealthy clients who fly to her from around the world.

Todd appears to have juggled an equally successful personal life. She is a married woman with an adult son. Elaborating on how all these years in the business have fared for her, she says, "I can’t say I regret leaving Oxford, if anything I wish I’d got into the sex trade sooner. It’s the most wonderful job in the world,” Todd continued in Times interview. “It’s great for self-esteem and it’s just fun. I’ve had so many exciting adventures. I get to travel everywhere — Americans love my posh voice. I go to lots of parties and I meet interesting celebrities I can’t tell you about. I get presents every day. I feel truly blessed.” Her advice to young collegiates who are considering the pole? "Do it. You'll have fun. you'll earn a lot of money, you'll be comfortable with your body," she says.
