Other invitees of the first lady who witnessed Biden’s speech, which included a crackdown on assault weapons and funding of police, were Joseph “JoJo” Burgess (New Employee Organization Trainer, United Steelworkers Local 1557), a student named Joshua Davis (Swift Creek Middle School, Diabetes Advocate), Refynd Duro (Progressive Care Unit Nurse, The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center), Patrick “Pat” Gelsinger (Chief Executive Officer, Intel), Frances Haugen (former Facebook Lead Product Manager on Civic Misinformation), Danielle Robinson (surviving spouse of Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson), and Kezia Rodriguez (student-parent at Bergen Community College).

Who is Melissa Isaac?
Melissa Isaac is reportedly the founder of Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe's (SCIT) Project AWARE Program as well as Gizhwaasod or “Protector of the Young” at the Michigan Department of Education’s Indigenous Education Initiative. She is an ardent promoter of CRT and has always been very vocal against its opponents.
In June 2021, she took to Twitter and said, “1/2 The argument against teaching Critical Race Theory is a smokescreen. Let's call it for what it is CENSORSHIP. That's what we're really talking about. Censoring systemic racism, injustice, and inequality will NOT ungay the gay, unqueer the queen, nor will it reduce the ....”

“2/2 number of BIPOC people killed by police brutality. It will not keep my Indigenous sisters from going Missing and being Murdered, and it definitely won't kill the Indian to save the man.....We are still here,” she had added.

In 2021, Isaac slammed Republicans in Lansing, Michigan, who tried to ban CRT at local schools. She said, “Apparently this is a GOP effort sweeping across the nation. It is showing up by ‘Mt. Pleasant Patriots’ at the MPPS Board of Education Meeting. There is a vast difference between what Critical Race Theory is and what the intention is. The goal seems to be the ‘banishment’ of concepts like systemic racism, marginalized populations, and inequity taught in schools. Think about WHY they would want this. Why don’t they want our kids to think critically and question everything? Why don’t they want people to have the ability to have minds of their own?”
The White House in a statement announcing the guests’ names has described Isaac as someone who “serves her community through her role at the Michigan Department of Education”. The statement noted, “As an elementary school teacher at Saginaw Chippewa Academy (SCA), Isaac recognized the need to support the mental health of her students and their families. She later successfully applied for a Project AWARE grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Using this grant, Isaac expanded mental health services for children at SCA and two public school districts, which included services for Native American children,” before mentioning that Jill Biden knows Isaac since October 2021 when she met her during “a listening session focused on youth mental health with members of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, educators, and families in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.”
