Melania Trump slammed for welcoming Amy Barrett's nomination as 'historic', Internet says it 'dishonors' RBG
Judge Amy Cony Barrett announced her nomination to serve as Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court and Melania Trump extended warm wishes to her with a tweet. Melania wrote, "Today we welcomed Judge Amy Coney Barrett & her family to the @WhiteHouse as @POTUS announced her nomination to serve as Associate Justice of the @USSupremeCourt. This is a historic moment for the Court and we send our best wishes to her & her family."

Barrett will fill the seat vacated after liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsberg's death - a dramatically sharp ideological swing since Clarence Thomas replaced Justice Thurgood Marshall nearly three decades ago. Barrett would be the sixth justice on the nine-member court to be appointed by a Republican president, and the third of Trump’s first term in office. Trump's 2016 victory rested on hesitant support from conservative and white evangelicals. Even before Ginsburg’s death, Trump was running on having confirmed in excess of 200 federal judges, which seems to be the generational aim of conservative legal activists. "This is my third such nomination after Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh, and it is a very proud moment indeed,” Trump said in the Rose Garden.
Barrett said she was "truly humbled” by the nomination, and that she would be “mindful of who came before her.” She showered praises on Ginsburg upon accepting the nomination, saying, “She has won the admiration of women across the country and indeed all across the world.” Barrett is a staunch conservative and grew acquainted with Trump after the 2017 appeals court confirmation, which included allegations of Democrats attacking her Catholic faith. The president had interviewed her in 2018 for SC after the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, but Trump ultimately chose Brett Kavanaugh.
There is fury unfolding on social media, as many believe that this nomination dishonours Ginsburg's legacy and everything that she stood for, and the replies on Melania's tweet are clear evidence of it. "Ruth Bader Ginsburg is going to be replaced by a woman who walked through every door that Ginsburg opened for her so she can promptly use her position to shut them all for others behind her."
Others sarcastically noted that history would be 'erased' for good. "It's historic all right...history is going to be erased and we're all going to see our constitutional rights revert back to the 1920s. This is a disgrace. (Oh, and I'm Catholic, and I keep wondering when the ones in the GOP will actually start listening to Pope Francis," one tweeted.

Some noted that if Barrett tried to impose her religious beliefs, she would be outvoted in an instant. "If she tries to impose her staunch religious beliefs on the American people we will fix it with more SCOTUS judges that will outvote her. Remember religion does not define the constitution," one noted.
Another commented on the tweet saying that wasn't exactly how judiciary works. "True Americans are going to show you just how historic this moment will be. As Trump and the criminal GOP try to dishonor Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy we will honor her by voting and taking out all the trash on November 3rd...Tick Tock," one wrote.
