Melania Trump's belated statement condemning Capitol riots dubbed 'irrelevant', Internet says it's 'all about her'

Melania Trump has lastly broken her silence over the deadly protests that rocked the Capitol building last week. In a statement released through the White House, the first lady said, “I am disappointed and disheartened with what happened last week." Besides, she also hit out at “salacious gossip” about her after the deadly protests, Newsweek reported.

“I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me–from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda. This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain,” Melania said, before stating, “Our Nation must heal in a civil manner. Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our Nation's Capitol. Violence is never acceptable."

The former model also said that she is glad to “see that so many have found a passion and enthusiasm in participating in an election, but we must not allow that passion to turn to violence. Our path forward is to come together, find our commonalities, and be the kind and strong people that I know we are." Before concluding her message, the 50-year-old mentioned her tenure as the first lady. “It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as your First Lady. I want to thank the millions of Americans who supported my husband and me over the past four years and shown the incredible impact of the American spirit. I am grateful to you all for letting me serve you on platforms which are dear to me,” she added.

Soon after Melania issued her statement, a lot of people took to Twitter to express their thoughts. One such user said, “It was nice of Melania to take time out of doing nothing to make her statement all about her.” Another one commented, “Her opinion is as irrelevant as what I wore yesterday with regards to the attack on our democracy. I won’t even read it.” “@FLOTUS did not write this. She has no idea what this actually says. This is the problem with people like her - they always hire someone else to do the work for them,” the third user stated.

“Wow @FLOTUS so much sympathy for the officer who was murdered. How do you do it??  He was murdered on behalf of your orange hubby,” the fourth person noted while the fifth one added, “oh, boo hoo! it's all about her, isn't it? she's a phony first lady & doesn't deserve the time of day! who wrote this cause we all know she doesn't care about anyone else. & her heart goes out to an insurrectionist? what about the Capitol cop that was killed?"

Melania’s comment came after her husband Donald Trump called last week's attack “heinous”. He said, “Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay."
