Kamala Harris told Jacob Blake she was "proud" of him while meeting with his family and legal team in Wisconsin on Monday. Responding to the news, veteran news anchor Megyn Kelly lashed out at the Democratic vice presidential nominee for heaping praise on the alleged sex offender, who was shot seven times by police last month for failing to comply with their orders.

"I mean, they're an incredible family. And what they've endured, and they just do it with such dignity and grace. And you know, they're carrying the weight of a lot of voices on their shoulders," the junior California Senator told reporters while touring an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers training facility in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, CNN reported.

Megyn Kelly, however, did not seem to approve of Harris' words. "PROUD of him? He’s accused of breaking into a sleeping woman’s house, sexually assaulting her, humiliating her & later returning to harass her. Then the cops she called for help say he resisted arrest, assaulted them & went for his knife. How about a word for his victim, Senator?" she tweeted.

It was Harris's first solo and in-person campaign trip as the running mate of Joe Biden, who met and spoke with the Blake family last week during his own trip to the state. Harris said her message to the family was about expressing concern for their "well-being and of course for their brother and son's well-being. Let them know that they have support."

Blake's family lawyer Benjamin Crump said his client joined the hourlong meeting by phone. According to him, Harris spoke to the family about how "they were handling the trauma and urged them to take care of their physical and mental health." "In a moving moment, Jacob Jr. told Sen. Harris that he was proud of her, and the senator told Jacob she was also proud of him and how he is working through his pain," he added.

Harris reportedly encouraged the family to continue using "their voices even through their pain to help America make progress to end systemic racism," Crump said.

Nonetheless, the vice-presidential hopeful received a major pushback on social media for praising the alleged sex offender. "Has Kamala reached out to Jacob Blake’s rape victim and offered her support she needs? No? Oh ok," pornstar Nikki Benz tweeted.

"Proud of resisting arrest, and reaching into his van to assault a Police Officer? Proud of giving Kenosha Police a reason to make him a paraplegic? We need to stop having pride for people who have the intelligence of a mollusk, and electing morons to Congress," one user commented.

"I’m proud of my kids, both of whom are productive members of society. I’m proud of all the men and women past/present who served/sacrificed their physical/emotional health (including my dad) in many cases, as well as made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. This guy? No." a second user chimed in.

"Lmao go back 10 years and Kamala would have been trying to deny this kid DNA evidence and call him guilty," another added.
