Meghan Trainor’s 'Treat Myself': Release date, featured artists and where to stream
Singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor is back with a new album titled ‘Treat Myself’. The album features an array of powerful, feminist anthems, from ‘Working On It’ described as a track “about loving yourself and just trying” to ‘No Excuses’, a pop-country song described as a ‘sexism-blasting empowerment anthem’.
Trainor has been hailed as an icon for body positivity and anti-bullying. Described by many as the most ‘unlikely pop star’ including Rolling Stones in 2014, Trainor stands out in an industry that often forces young women to adapt to what would be considered a more ‘commercial’ image.
In addition to being inspirational for her body positivity, Trainor has come to be known for her feminism. In a 2016 interview with Bustle, she said, "I'd been told: 'Don't say you're something if you don't know what it is.' So I was like: 'Well, I'm not a feminist,' because I didn't really understand it and then I was like 'Oh, s**t! Obviously I am a feminist. My songs are women's anthems across the board.'"
Trainor’s music has become increasingly feminist over time and with ‘Treat Myself’, she’s making her stance loud and clear.
Who's on this new album?
Trainor brings her classic sound to the tracks on this album which features guests Mike Sabath, Nicki Minaj, Sasha Sloan, Lennon Stella and the recently reunited Pussycat Dolls. Trainor also participated in writing all the songs on the album.
What has she done before this?
‘Treat Myself’ is Trainor’s third studio album and first major release in four years. Her previous album, 2016’s ‘Thank You’ was an R&B and dance-pop influenced project that included the hit song ‘No’.
How will it sound?
Trainor’s signature sound of 50’s-inspired doo-wop and jazz has featured on all her projects. This time around, expect some more R&B and bass-driven sounds.
When is it expected to come out?
‘Treat Myself’ comes out on January 31, 2020. Originally slated to release on August 31, 2018, the album was delayed due to Trainor wanting to add a few more tracks to it.
