The rumor mills are churning around Westminster that Meghan Markle will use the outcry over her interview with Oprah Winfrey to launch the political career that could see her make her way to the White House. According to Daily Mail, a senior Labour figure with strong connections to Washington claimed that Meghan was interacting with senior democrats to building a campaign for a shot at the presidency of the United States.

The site also added that Meghan's source declined to comment on the issue and added that Harry and Meghan have made no secret about their political beliefs. Last year during the US election, the couple took a shot at former POTUS Donald Trump as they urged voters to "reject hate speech" which also saw Trump lash back saying he wasn't a fan of her.

Should Meghan be serious about her Presidency aspirations, that would mean renouncing the royal family title to hold public office in the US. The report also added that Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying: "The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family" after Harry and Meghan's comments during the election last year. Their statements were described as something that was done in a more "personal capacity".

If Meghan does indeed become President, that would mean she would be the first female POTUS and the second non-White occupant of the Oval office after former President Barack Obama. News of Meghan's interest in the presidency did the rounds last year when royal expert and author of 'Finding Freedom' Omid Scobie said: "She has her eyes set on the US presidency. Meghan is the embodiment of the American dream. One day we may see Meghan become president."

This came after Harry faced backlash after telling people to vote against Trump. While speaking in a Time 100 video message, Harry, who isn't a US citizen, shared that he was not eligible to vote during the November 3 election and added that he had never voted in the UK either, where the royals are expected to remain politically neutral.

According to Time, Harry said, "As we approach this November, it's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity. When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It's time to not only reflect but act."

Meghan added: "Every four years we are told the same thing that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter because you do and you deserve to be heard."
