On September 23, President Donald Trump, during a press conference at the White House, was asked about a video in which Prince Harry and Meghan are seen encouraging Americans to vote. The reporter insinuated that the couple was "essentially encouraging people to vote for Joe Biden" and asked what Trump’s reaction was. Trump answered the question by saying, "I'm not a fan of hers" and wished a "lot of luck to Harry because he's going to need it."

To give some context, while speaking in a Time 100 video message, Harry, who isn't a US citizen, shared that he was not eligible to vote during the November 3 election and added that he had never voted in the UK either where the royals are expected to remain politically neutral.

According to Time, Harry said, "As we approach this November, it's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity. When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It's time to not only reflect but act."

Meghan said, "Every four years we are told the same thing that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter because you do and you deserve to be heard." Even though they did not endorse a candidate, their comments earned them a lot of backlash. Many social media users said how this was none of their business and it's best they stay clear of the same.

However, Trump’s comments about Meghan also irked Twitter users. One user said, "Who’s gonna tell the president that Meghan doesn’t need him to 'be a fan' of hers?" Another user claimed, "I love how much Meghan makes you misogynistic men mad. they can't handle a Black woman being in that amount of power can they?” One user questioned, "MEGHAN MARKLE DESERVES BETTER 1) Harry doesn’t need 'luck' he knew the strong and powerful woman he married 2) literally the cops who murdered Breonna Taylor are walking free and this is what the press corps ask him?"

Another concurred, “Trump just threatened to throw out ballots and prevent a peaceful transfer of power but the press corps is asking Trump about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?” Another said, “Funny how the reporter says Prince Harry AND Meghan Markle are for Biden and all Trump can do is put Markle down. Harry’s a part of this too, no words for him?"

Another said, "Maybe tomorrow the press can ask about this Homeland Security 6M haul Chad Wolf got instead of what Meghan Markle said." One stated, “Desperate Trump, he can’t control Meghan Markle, so he slams her. Nasty & predictable, Trump." A user said, “Trump can’t handle Meghan Markle being a strong woman who isn’t falling for his cult politics. As for Prince Harry, he needs no luck with her, for true is not luck, but, fate. Trump probably can’t relate.”
