The Mega Millions jackpot was drawn on Friday night, July 29, in Atlanta, Georgia, for an estimated $1.28 billion, making it the third largest US lottery prize in history. The biggest lottery prize was $1.537 billion in 2018 and the winner was from South Carolina who chose to stay anonymous. On Tuesday, July 26, the Mega Millions jackpot crossed the $1 billion milestone, but the value had been building up since the past 4 months.

Lottery officials explained that the odds of someone matching all six balls are about 1 in 302,575,350, and whoever is able to do that will receive a cash value of $747.2 million. The winning numbers are 13, 36, 45, 57, 67, and the Gold Mega Ball was 14. The Megaplier was 2X. No one claimed the jackpot on Tuesday when the numbers were announced, but there were claims of smaller prizes. One ticket in Virginia won $1 million for matching the five white balls, and the rest were found in Delaware, New Jersey and New York, each matching the five white balls and the Megaplier (which was 3X), taking home a $3 million prize each, per the Mega Millions website.

Here's how people would spend their #MegaMillions winnings

This is how people would spend the lottery money IF they win. One user tweeted his list, "Making my “I won the #MegaMillionsJackpot” shopping list." Another user explained how subtly they would throw signs of them becoming rich, saying, "If I win the lottery, I’m not going to tell anyone, but there will be signs. #MegaMillionsJackpot" One user mocked the lottery amount and wrote, "We won $2.00 in the Mega Millions lottery. Please respect our privacy as our family decides how to move forward in this pivotal moment. #MegaMillions" One user joked about not going to work on a Saturday and wrote, "I just checked my #MegaMillions and I will NOT be going to work tommarow. But I will be there first thing Monday morning." One user who wants to invest in a sequel to 'Dredd', a 2012 film, said, "Hope no one won the #MegaMillions tonight. Mainly because I want another chance to win...so that I can finance a #Dredd sequel."

Here’s someone who knows exactly what he wants and it involves Batman, so it has to be good, "If I won #MegaMillions, I'd build an exact replica of Wayne Manor. Live in it in a brooding Emo-Robert Pattinson style. Build the Batmobile & occasionally go out & fight crime (actually staged crime that isn't real as that would ensure I'd win any fight because I'm 50)." One called out those who promise to build schools, end poverty, to pay off loans with the billion dollar payout, saying, "I love the lies people feel the need to put on social media with what they'd do if they won #MegaMillions. You wouldn't buy farm land for stray dogs and donate Christie, you'd have a mansion in Malibu first and you know it." Another user took a different approach, and said he'd give his followers a million dollars for liking his tweet, "Gonna win the #MegaMillions tonight. Like this tweet if you want a million of it." One more user who hoped to win in order to retire from nursing wrote, "Maaaaaan, I thought maybe I’d win mega millions and could retire from nursing. Did the Covid surge and now monkey pox. I’m tired! But I won 4 bucks. Going to stroll into Dunkin’ Donuts like I own that bitch #MegaMillions #MegaMillionsJackpot #lotto". Another user wrote, "My coworkers and me showing up to work on Monday after we didn’t win the Mega Millions jackpot #MegaMillions"
