Spoilers ahead for season 2 episode 9 'Itzam-Ye' of 'Mayans MC'

With only one more episode left to go for season 2 of Mayans MC, the Santo Padre charter is ready to go to war against Vatos Malditos (VM).

After the VM attacked the Mayans in the last episode Kukulkun, they left Coco (Richard Cabral) and Riz (Antonio Jaramillo) badly hurt - with Coco injured in the eye potentially risking his sharpshooting skills and Riz gravely injured with bullets to his chest (he dove bravely in front of Taza (Raoul Max Trujillo).

But the decision to go to war wasn't their first resort. Coco is livid with rage. Even though the doctors say he will recover, he can't be sharpshooting at this point. As revenge, he wants every member of the Vatos Malditos dead.

Bishop (Michael Irby) is informed that the kings will be in Santo Padre the next day and they are scheduled to see what will is to be done of the VM. There needs to be a discussion before they take any action because of their deal with SAMCRO. When the kings meet, it is revealed that Chibs and Sons of Anarchy are pissed about what the VM did after they left. Bishop gets told that while the kings understand the ambush was wrong, they must look at the bigger picture - the gun transfers are only going to work through the VM and that the money is needed for the financially struggling club.

But Bishop is angry and must answer to a crew that is seeking revenge. Yuma's president tells him, "Your charter makes the call. They decide on retaliation. But if there is, it becomes a club-wide problem. You need need to make that clear at your table, as their president and as a Mayans shot-caller."

Bishop hopelessly tries to convince an angry Coco to wait and sort things out but Coco retorts asking what is there to sort out - if he loses his eyesight, he might not be able to ride again. Bishop then tries to appeal to his reason by stating that they would be putting millions of dollars at stake if they rush out with a plan to attack the VM. Coco is livid; he calls Bishop out on treating the club like a corporation "CEOs deciding what is best for Mayans Incorporated," he says, "I hope that involves a f****ng health plan because I'm gonna need it."

Following this, Bishop meets Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) in the presence of Tranq (Frankie Loyal) and fills him in. Alvarez tells him that he knows it is a hard call deciding what is best for the MC. He reminds him that the Mayans are bigger than before and that Bishop has to take the call - "This is not the same club I started. It's bigger, sophisticated, much more profitable."

He asks him if he's up for the challenge; Bishop is.

He later sits with Tranq, Coco, Angel and Gilly (Vincent Vargas) and tells them that he would take a bullet for his crew, but at this point, he knows they will be setting an example. "Every charter will look to us for direction. We set the tone," he says. But there are differences on the table. Bishop iterates that they must vote with their heads instead of their hearts. Gilly and Angel are certain about their vote - they seek revenge. There is no question about what Coco wants. But Tranq chooses the business.

Bishop says that he wouldn't have had to think twice had the situation been any different. "If Riz had died or Coco what happened to you was permanent, I would not hesitate to strike back. But looking at the bigger picture for the entire MC, for every man sitting at this table, I think it is in our best interests to avoid retaliation," he says, adding that Taza and Creeper have voted 'no vengeance'.

An indignant Coco doesn't even recognize the club anymore - he asks Bishop if he's ready to sit at the same table as the Vatos and deal with them and "pretend this never happened". And all for money? Is that what the club has come to? He calls out everyone who has voted against hitting back. Coco leaves the table and as Angel tries to follow him, Bishop says not to, and that he can't hear anything right now. Angel says, "No offence, Bish, he really can't see anything either. We're not living with the fear of that shit like he is."

At the hospital, Taza takes care of Riz as Creeper takes a break. He bends over and pecks Riz on the forehead asking for forgiveness. And then, in a very surprising move, cuts off his air supply. Riz is dead.

This changes everything.

Back at the clubhouse, Bishop delivers the news that Riz is dead. The votes are all null and void now - the Mayans are "going to war".

The reason behind Taza killing Riz, at the moment, could be considered to sway the votes. The only way for the club to get retaliation was for either Coco or Riz to die. Perhaps he did it to avoid going against the Bishop and still get revenge. But fans aren't too sure. Some suggest his history with the Vatos could point to him being a mole. "I feel Taza was used in that scene to leave his reasons for killing Riz up for interpretation. He has a history with the Vatos MC, which makes it look like he could be a mole within the Mayans. However, more than likely, his reason for killing Riz was to sway the vote towards retaliation. This way, as VP of the MC, Taza didn't have to go against Bishop's deciding vote to continue the relationship. No boats were rocked between Prez and VP," said a fan.

With the next episode being the season finale, it could decide the fate for the Mayans. We wait.

'Mayans MC' airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on FX.
