Spoilers ahead for season 2 episode 4 'Lahun Chan' of 'Mayans MC'

'Mayans MC' is a show about family. But with the introduction of its latest plot twist, it looks like this family tree is only going to get more complicated going forward into season 2. In episode 4 'Lahun Chan', Dita (Ada Maris) revealed to Felipe (Edward James Olmos) that Miguel (Danny Pino) is really his son! So Miguel is not a Galindo heir after all.

The revelation leaves Felipe tensed about the future. To ease his worry, Dita tells him that no one knows about the truth about Miguel's parentage and promises that no one ever will. But this isn't enough to placate Felipe. Later in the episode, we know that their secret is no longer just theirs anymore as Emily (Sarah Bolger) also finds the old photograph that Dita keeps looking at discovering that there is something going on between the two of them.

In the promo released by FX of the upcoming episode 'Xquic', we can see that Emily decided to get to the bottom of this. She is seen with Felipe in his butcher shop, where he tells her that this history will only hurt those he loves. Which means that he is fully aware of the potential damage that this secret could cause if it goes out. But if Emily gets to know, will she choose to do anything about the information? Will she use it as leverage or will she be the one to tell Miguel?

But this was not going to be Miguel's character arc when the season set out filming. In an interview writer and director Elgin James gave before the fourth season aired, he spoke about this being a development that was born in the writer's room and was not planned all this while. "Originally Miguel was more of a clear-cut antagonist, and now that’s been blurred some. We feel for him. He has empathy. That’s all Danny Pino. That is Danny Pino’s performance and what he’s brought to this character. Nothing is forbidden in the writers’ room. You can go down any avenue you want. And then we just took a stroll down to “hey, what if they are brothers?” And that’s where we ended up," he said

Although creators say that they want the characters of Angel, EZ and Miguel to make this discovery organically, how it will play out will be exciting to watch. This revelation though has put at stake Felipe and the Reyes brothers. Consequently, it puts Angel and Adelita's (Carla Baratta) relationship at stake as well.

'Mayans MC' airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm on FX.
