BOSQUE COUNTY, TEXAS: A 34-year-old father, Matthew Boggs, was killed and his six-year-old child Grayson Boggs suffered possible brain damage after being struck by lightning on Monday, May 15. This happened while Matthew was walking back home from the Valley Mills bus stop with his two sons, 11-year-old Elijah, and Grayson.

A GoFundMe page set up for the family, read, “At approximately 5:10, Monday evening, May 15, 2023, Matthew, Grayson, and Elijah were walking down the driveway after getting off the bus, when lightning came out of the sky without warning, and entered Matthew's body and traveled to Grayson, since they were holding hands.”

Grayson on ventilator and having seizures

Elijah, who witnessed his father and brother getting struck by lightning, said he thought it was a joke. He told KWTX, "I was really scared. I rolled Grayson over and he was kind of smiling a little bit. I thought they were just joking, but when I rolled my dad over the middle of his head was bleeding and his face was already purple." The GoFundMe page further added, "Grayson is a 6 year old little boy who is currently fighting for his life at the Children's Hospital in Temple, Texas. He is currently on a vent and is having seizures. The doctors have told us that because he was hit by lightning, their main concerns are his heart, lungs, and kidney damage. The next 72 hours are crucial. Please if you are not in a place to donate, please, please, please share! Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and generosity."

The GoFundMe fundraiser has a goal of raising $50,000. So far, there have been 303 donations and a total of $17,389 has been raised.

Who was Matthew Boggs?

Matthew's mother, Angel, said, as stated by Fox Weather, "He was a good, loving father. He loved his kids. His kids were everything to him." The mother added that he had special needs and enjoyed playing basketball and video games. And further expressed, "I always took care of him because he was the one that God gave to me. Now my responsibility is to take care of my grandbabies," reports KWTX.

Last words by the father to his son...

Matthew's mother recalled the final words her son told her grandson. “He just got done telling Grayson—he said, ‘I love you buddy.’ That’s when the lightning came down," she narrated. Speaking of her grandson, she said, “He’s a rambunctious little boy. He is always, always on the move playing. He goes, ‘Rawww strong'."
