Why was Matt James rubbing his mother’s leg? 'The Bachelor' fans find the 'physical chemistry' awkward

'So uncomfortable watching Matt rub his mom’s leg... why didn’t @BachelorABC cut that out?' one fan expressed

Matt James's final two suitresses Michelle Young and Rachael Kirkconnell met with his mother Patty James and John James tonight, on the March 15 episode of 'The Bachelor, which also happens to be the season finale. While his mother told Matt she could see Michelle become a "part of their" family if things work out between her and her son, his brother had a few serious questions for his future sister-in-law. However, more than Matt's family's conversation with the ladies, it's his alone time with his mother that has creeped out the audience. 

Following Michelle's conversation with Matt's family, the bachelor takes a moment to ask his mother's opinion. The discussion was important as Patty pushed him to do the right thing and know where his heart is at. However, what's making the viewers uncomfortable is the fact that he was "rubbing" his mother's leg during their conversation.

It was only a matter of time before fans stormed to Twitter to express their evident disapproval of Matt's 'physical affection, which saw him rubbing his mother's leg. A considerable number of 'The Bachelor' fans who seem grossed out by his gesture have asked if it's normal. Meanwhile, many have noted that it was rather "awkward" to watch him do that. 

One 'The Bachelor' fan tweeted, "Anyone else think it’s strange Matt’s rubbing his mother’s leg or is this what we’re doing now?? #TheBachelor" Another asked, "DID ANYONE ELSE FEEL SUPER AWKWARD WHEN MATT WAS STROKING HIS MOTHER’S LEG #TheBachelor " One asked, "Is anyone else concerned about how aggressively Matt was rubbing his mother’s leg?  #TheBachelor" One noted, "Matt rubs his mother’s leg the way he rubs the women on the show  #thebachelorabc #TheBachelor " Another wrote, "Matt had more physical chemistry with his mom than most girls this season #TheBachelor " One expressed, "So uncomfortable watching Matt rub his mom’s leg... why didn’t @BachelorABC cut that out?!"

Even though Patty appeared to be happy with her son's final two suitresses, who could become his future wife, she explained to Matt that love alone couldn't define a relationship. After hearing his mother, Matt finds himself conflicted, as he starts to question his commitment to a long-term relationship, especially a marriage. It remains to be seen if Matt will still go ahead and ask one of the final two ladies' hand in marriage. 

'The Bachelor' finale aired on ABC on March 15 at 8 pm ET.
