Major Harry Crosby receives a big promotion

In ‘Masters of the Air’ Episode 5, Major Harry Crosby (Anthony Boyle) is back at the 100th Bomb Group’s base for the next mission.

He is promoted to the post of Group Navigator, relieving him from active flight duty and allowing him to oversee the missions from the ground.

He dives headfirst into the upcoming mission of the Munster Raid. Joseph Bubbles Payne (Louis Greatorex) extends congratulations to Major Crosby on his recent promotion as the 100th Bomb Group embarks on the next mission with 13 planes.

As the 100th Bomb Group departs for the next mission, Crosby prays for the safe return of his friends, patiently awaiting their arrival back at the base. 

Joseph Bubbles Payne’s death shatters Major Crosby

In Episode 5 of 'Masters of the Air,' Major Crosby receives the heartbreaking news of Bubbles' death. Out of 13 planes that traveled to Munster for the next mission, only one returned.

During the debriefing at the base, officials discuss the chaotic events of the recent mission and provide updates on the status of the remaining unit members.

Major Crosby feels guilty about his new promotion, blaming himself for the death of Bubbles. He visits Bubbles' quarters and discovers a letter that Bubbles had written to Crosby's wife, penned during the moments when he believed Crosby had died.

In the last scene of ‘Masters of the Air’ Episode 5, Major Crosby is seen crying.
