HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY: Marylue Wigglesworth, 51, who has been accused of fatally shooting her husband David Wigglesworth, 57, on December 25, 2022, claimed she killed him in self-defense. Her lawyers said on Tuesday, January 3, that “she feared for her life” before killing her husband, while prosecutors said David was naked in bed with the TV on when he died.

Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Patricia M Wild ordered Marylue, who allegedly shot her husband inside their home in the 5200 block of Somers Point-Mays Landing Road during an apparent fight, to be held in jail due to the severity of the charge against her, reports Press of Atlantic City. She will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and is due back in court in February 2023.

Marylue Wigglesworth was in abusive relationship

According to DailyMail, Marylue seemed happy in the marriage with her husband, with whom she has one son. The pictures uploaded online showed them smiling on different vacations. However, her defense lawyers Melissa Rosenblum and Jonathan Diego argued she was in an abusive relationship. They further said that Marylue has been “overcharged” for acting in self-defense. Rosenblum said, “What the state did not do and did not present your honor, is that when she did talk to the police, she admitted that she shot him. She stated at least six times to the officers that there was a fight and an altercation. They never took pictures of her that night to see what her injuries or bruising were, or at least I have not received them, your honor,” according to Press of Atlantic City.

In an affidavit, the couple’s son said that he "loves his dad and this is hard but he also talks about the fact that his dad was violent and his dad was abusive,” Rosenblum said, adding, “This was during the course of her whole marriage,” as per Breaking AC.

On the other hand, Atlantic County Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy countered by telling the court that David was “naked and in bed with the TV on." He said, "The fact that she hasn’t been violent to the rest of the community is all well and good, however, she was extremely violent on this night," reports Press of Atlantic City.
