Why is Mariah Huq not returning to 'Married to Medicine'? Bravo alum claims she was not allowed to wear a hijab
Mariah Huq is the brains behind 'Married to Medicine' and it's sad to see her being unceremoniously dropped from the show. Of course, she claims that it could be her race or the color of her skin that influenced Bravo's casting decisions for Season 8.
Having been the creator and Executive Producer of the hit reality series, Mariah wasn't going to keep quiet and she didn't. In an Instagram post, she shared how her mailbox was empty and she hadn't gotten her new contract yet. Ideally, there should have been a development after that shocking reveal on social media but there was nothing but radio silence from the network.
In an interview with All About Tea, she pointed out how some of her "White counterparts" get to keep their jobs as execs but she gets iced out by production. Apparently, she was also asked to not wear her hijab during the green room interviews. Naturally, there had to be consequences. Mariah decided to file a lawsuit against Purveyors of Pop, the production team behind 'M2M'.
As reported by Yahoo, the lawsuit points out that there has been a: "Breach of Contract, Breach of Joint Venture Agreement, Breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, Failure to prevent retaliation and harassment, and Unauthorized exploitation of “Married To Medicine” & Married To Medicine the Series."
It's unfortunate that this has to happen to Mariah but her journey has been problematic. Although, she has served a boatload of drama over the past 7 seasons, which includes being dissed by cast members for snobbish attitude, personal loss, and a miscarriage among other issues. Mariah and her husband Aydin Huq conceived twins but lost them closer to the due date. It was a tough time for the couple. She took a brief hiatus to grieve. But when she returned, things quickly went back to square one.
The feuds intensified over the years and got out of hand when Quad Webb accused Mariah of cocaine use. To prove her innocence, the latter got her drug test results to the season 6 reunion. Dr Simone Whitmore later came to her defense, told Andy Cohen during an episode of 'Watch What Happens Live': "The bottom line is, Andy, I've known Mariah since 2004. I've never known her to do drugs, no one's ever accused her of being on drugs, just some vindictive s**t happened at the reunion last year."
