Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has a new defense for the January 6 insurrection — it only happened once. The controversial Georgia politician caused another massive firestorm on April 11, 2022, after urging the press to move on from the violent events on Capitol Hill. Greene told NBC's Scott Wong that people "are sick and tired of Jan. 6. It’s over, OK?” in a now-viral clip that has earned her yet more condemnation.

The Republican Party has been attempting to draw attention away from the insurrection, given that both investigations into it now firmly tie senior White House officials from the Trump administration. The FBI and DoJ's investigation has so far landed key members of the Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers, with the groups tied to Roger Stone. Meanwhile, the House Select Committee has gone as far as naming Donald Trump directly.

Others in Trumpworld tied to the insurrection include Sean Hannity, Rudy Guiliani, Matt Gaetz, and Steve Bannon to name a few. With the midterms fast approaching, Democrats are attempting to get as much dirt as possible on those involved, while others like Greene are busy furiously fighting to hide the truth. It may have something to do with the fact the House Committee subpoenaed Greene's own phone records as part of its investigation.

'The American people are fed up'

On April 10, Greene took to Twitter and posted a video about her interaction with Wong. "FULL video of what I said about Jan. 6. Every week the press asks Republicans divisive questions about each other like this, trying to get me to say something bad or criticize @GOPLeader. Then only report a twisted sound bite of our words. I’m not playing the game anymore," she tweeted. However, if she was hoping the video would exonerate her, it did exactly the opposite.

"The American people are fed up with this over-dramatization of a riot that happened here at the Capitol one time," Greene said. She then said people are more concerned about the border, gas prices, and food prices. "If you want to get outside this city and come to my district and talk to real Americans, you're going to hear a totally different story," she claims before saying, "They are sick and tired of Jan. 6. It’s over, OK?” She ends with "go ask BLM and Antifa rioters, see if they are rotting in jail."

The soundbite quickly went viral, and not in a good way for Greene. It was immediately hit back with a wall of criticism, as users posted video clips about Greene's own admissions from days before the insurrection, while others resorted to some plain trolling.

'How many times would it take for a republican to care?'

"I’m in your district. I’m a real American. I care deeply about the attempted coup on January 6th. I’m not sick of it. I want answers & people to be held accountable. The majority of people feel the same way. We don’t want that to ever happen again!," one user tweeted. Another responded, "I don’t care what you tell the press about J6, I care that you and the rest involved with that day testify." One person clapped back, "News Flash: I care about what happened on Jan 6. As a representative, YOU should care about it. You should be outraged, but instead, you just dismiss it as if it was nothing."

"I’m not fed up with hearing about it. I’m fed up that nothing has been done about it," one person replied. Another asked, "Pearl Harbour happened just once The holocaust happened just once 911 happened just once Should we have not done anything about them since they all happened just once?" One furious user tweeted, "One time? How many times would it take for a republican to care? Or should I say WHO would it take? Maybe M three names should stop speaking for all Americans. I can assure you, we are not tired of Jan 6. It will not be over until the people responsible are held accountable."

One person said "She's a world class idiot" in response to Greene's comments. Another warned, "MTG: "Everyone's being prosecuted that should be prosecuted." Not everyone, lady. Yet." Another simply said, "NOPE. I haven't heard enough about Jan 6. MORE please and thank you."
