'Marianne': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about Netflix's French horror series
There's a new Netflix horror on the horizon, and it's everything avid fans of the genre have been waiting for! Think 'The Haunting of Hill House' with darker, more 'Veronica'-ish elements of supernatural horror, and voila — you've got Netflix's upcoming French horror series 'Marianne'. Arriving mid-September, it packs everything: a mysterious novelist, her book on dark spirits and entities, and those words turning into reality leading her to reconnect with her roots. Here's everything you need to know about the show:
Release date
Netflix's 'Marianne' releases this September 13.
Plot
'Marianne' chronicles the story of a popular novelist and her encounters with the deadly, titular witch, who takes the shape of an elderly woman. The novelist, Emma, has been plagued by nightmares of the terrifying witch, which led to the conception of her book about the witch.
Written as a coping mechanism to keep those nightmares and the witch at bay, Emma soon realizes that the creatures and nightmares from her stories were coming to life. Emma realizes she can't always keep the horrors at bay, and this compels her to return home to dig deep into the witch's origins to ruin the dark entity.
It turns out Emma had an encounter with the witch in her childhood already — an experience that has shadowed her throughout her life. Emma feels she can overcome her fears now, even though Marianne "always gets what she wants" and "always keeps [her] promise".
Cast
Victoire Du Bois
'Marianne' stars 'Call Me by Your Name's Victoire du Bois as the novelist, Emma. Lucie Boujenah and Tiphaine Daviot also star in the horror show.
Creator
Written and directed by Samuel Bodin, the trailer for 'Marianne' has already made itself widely popular for the Stephen King-esque twisted elements of horror that the french auteur's work resonates with.
Trailer
The first official trailer for 'Marianne' arrived just five days ago and the world hasn't been able to shut up about it. A firm reminder of all things potentially beneficial for the horror genre, 'Marianne's trailer is loaded with creepy grandma-type ghosts and ominous cult-type slashes on skin. The entire aura of the trailer is laden with a mysterious discomfort that keeps one on the edge like very few horrors manage to do in today's time. Check it out for yourself here!
