Loren Schauers: Man who had half his body amputated after forklift accident marks third 'accident anniversary'

MONTANA, UNITED STATES: Loren Schauers, 22, who needed to ampute half his body after a forklift accident three years ago in 2019, shared a video on Youtube with his wife Sabia Schauers-Reiche. The couple looked back at the accident and how far they have come since then. The video was a compilation of moments on how the incident that happened on September 27, 2019, changed their lives forever.

The couple edited almost thirteen hours of footage captured over the three years into a fifty-seven minute video and posted it on their chanel on Tuesday, 28th September. The pair had only been together for eighteen months when the accident happened, but have said the unfortunate incident brought them closer together. They later got engaged are currently a married couple.

Loren Schauers was driving when the forklift veered off a bridge in Montana, and sent him plummeting 50ft and finally pinning him beneath the four ton vehicle. He remained awake and conscious throughout and could see his right arm explode and everything below his hips being crushed. In order to save his life, Loren agreed to letting medics perform the life-saving hemicorperectomy surgery, where everything below his waist was amputated. At the time doctors told his devastated girlfriend Sabia Reiche that he wouldn't survive, and she said her goodbyes to him six times. However, Loren miraculously pulled through this devastating incident and it's been three years since the accident.

The video titled "Three Year Accident Anniversary. 09/27/2019-09/27-2022" with a thumbnail of a several grid pictures of Loren and Sabia with a caption "Our Life That Last Three Years Since The Accident." The video started in 2019 when Loren who was just 19 at the time was receiving treatment in a rehab center after undoing a hemiocorporctomy. He explained that during that time he was travelling for almost two and a half hours to work.



 

"Since my supervisor took a liking to me he asked me to do practically everything he wanted done, so my boss asked me to grab the forklift, drag it across, and move the water barrier back into position. I never got trained to even drive a forklift." Loren said in the video.

The couple went on to share footages of their journey throughout showing Loren's condition and his attempt to adjust in rehab and physical therapy. "Everyone wants to see the world from Loren's perspective but nobody wants to be in Loren's position." The pair posted clips of Sabia sharing how he dresses Loren, helps him into his wheelchair and changes his bandages. The video continued to show how the couple struggled but enjoyed their time together.They also shared sweet moments from their wedding day, that took place in February 2021.

They concluded the video with the couple's latest video after the couple moved into their new home. "It has been a long and wild journey and we can't wait to see where else thinks life will take us and we hope we can continue taking you all along with us." Loren and Sabia ended their storyboard by thanking those who have been following them and supporting their videos on YouTube and TikTok.
