Texas man says ‘I drive better drunk’ while sipping beer in video before crash kills 3 including girlfriend
HOUSTON, TEXAS: A man’s reckless behavior killed three people after he thought it would be cool to drive while drunk. Camilo Morejon was reportedly caught on camera drinking a beer while being at the wheel and saying, “I drive better drunk”. But moments later, tragedy struck as his silver Honda crashed into a black pickup truck. The unfortunate incident reportedly happened on Sunday, October 25.
The Sun reported that the fatal crash was live-streamed on Facebook that saw the 47-year-old man drinking alcohol from the bottle while driving through Houston, Texas. He also proudly announced in the video in Spanish that he “drives better when I drink.” But as the video ended, Morejon’s vehicle crashed with the pickup truck, taking the lives of three people, including his girlfriend Leosveyka Gonzalez. The other two who were in Morejon's car and died were identified as Pedro Martinez and Massel Rodriguez. Morejon and the driver of the other vehicle, Ricardo Rodriguez-Tamayo, remain in hospital in critical condition.
“It's very rare that we see actions of the defendant that close in time to a horrific crash like that but it's what happens, it's what goes on moments before lives are lost,” Harris County prosecutor Sean Teare said. Reports stated that the video was live-streamed at 7:47 am and six minutes later at 7:53 am the accident took place. The crash was also reportedly caught on CCTV of a nearby gas station, but Morejon’s Honda was seen not clear in it as it sped down the street. “We've had four crashes in 24 hours that will contribute to seven deaths possibly, all of which are going to be charged,” Teare noted.
As per reports, the local investigators are now probing several after-hours bars from which Morejon might have bought beer. They are taking this step to check if alcohol played a role in the collision. “We believe there are probably three or four bars that are around the area we believe they were and we are in the process today of going to those locations determining which ones were contributing factors to this crash,” Teare added. It has also been reported that Morejon has been charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. If found guilty, he would face 80 years in jail.
In another incident, a woman from Maryland died in a multi-vehicle collision moments after sharing videos of herself speeding in her sports car on Instagram. Stephanie Angelica Vasquez’s 2020 Toyota Supra reportedly collided with a Honda Accord in Gaithersburg, taking her life. The 25-year-old shared a number of videos of herself posing in the yellow car just moments before the crash. In the caption, she said: "Imma kill it on the high way." Along with Vasquez, a 35-year-old man named Jonathan Chakras, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the car, also died in the accident. While 40-year-old Heriberto Santos Gonzalez, who was driving the Accord, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Two other men, whose identities are not known, were also rushed to the hospital because of their critical condition.
