Tennessee man arrested for living secretly in 14-year-old girl's bedroom attic and visiting her at night
A Tennessee man has been arrested on a trespassing charge after police found him living in an attic connected to a 14-year-old girl's bedroom without her mother's knowledge. Matthew Casto was arrested on June 2 after police were called to a home at Karen Drive and Benders Ferry Road in Mt Juliet for a report of an intruder.
Reports state that a woman informed the police that she came home to find the bearded, long-haired young man at the top of the stairs. The woman said that as soon as Castro saw her, he "bolted" to her 14-year-old daughter's bedroom, despite the mother's screams demanding that he leave, according to Scoop Nashville.
Officers who were called to the scene reportedly had to remove Casto by force from the residence because he refused to go willingly. An ongoing investigation of the case further revealed that Casto had been living in the attic space for "some time" and would come down only at night through the teenage girl's closet after she had locked her bedroom door.
The police reportedly said that they had warned Casto to stay away from the 14-year-old girl when she ran away from home on May 29. The young teen, whose name has not been revealed because of her age, was found safe in Nashville the next day and was returned home.
However, there has not yet been any intimation about the nature of Casto's relationship with the 14-year-old, according to police officials. Following his arrest, the 18-year-old was booked into the county jail on a single count of aggravated criminal trespass. Casto was released on June 6 after posting $2,000 bond. He is due back in court on Thursday, June 13.
