Mother 'allowed' abuse
Meanwhile, the arrest warrant against Malisha Safras alleged that she allowed Harris "to abuse the child multiple times and knowing the abuse was going on." She also allegedly let him "continue to abuse the child till death." According to WXIA-TV, Sasfras remained "quiet with her head down the entire time" when she appeared in court on Monday, February 13. No bond was set. Authorities stated that Sasfras and Harris were in a relationship but weren't married. The mother reportedly lives in the Candler Forest apartment complex on Candler Road, per court records. As mentioned, authorities are yet to reveal further details about how the child was hurt or what exactly led up to his demise.
Sasfras case resembles January incident of child abuse and murder
MEAWW previously reported how an Ohio woman and her boyfriend were charged with the murder of her eight-month-old son. Savanna Dawson, 23, and her lover Kyrios L March Jr, 24, were taken into custody on January 13 and booked into the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Police in Columbus, Ohio, reportedly had been looking for the couple in the alleged murder of baby Marquel Smith. Court records indicate that officers responded to their home on January 9 after a report about the child not breathing. The infant was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead but also discovered suspicious injuries in the process.
An autopsy carried out by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office on January 11 determined that the infant died from blunt force trauma. The autopsy report stated that he suffered from a “brain bleed and several bruises on the subdermal skull." It also determined that Marquel's “numerous broken bones were consistent with abuse and not accidental in nature." Dawson and March surrendered themselves to police in Perry County after they were found in Dawson's hometown of New Straitsville.
If you or anyone you know has information about Javonte Harris' whereabouts, you are urged to call 911 or contact the DeKalb County Special Victims Unit at 770-724-7710.
