Madison Cawthorn told to 'stop the sanctimony and hypocrisy' after lingerie pics emerge

Controversial Republican Madison Cawthorn is again in the headlines as photos of him posing in women's lingerie, wearing hoops, drinking wine with surroundingh females have emerged. Politico first reported about those pictures after getting them from an unknown person “formerly close to Cawthorn and his campaign.”

Though when the photos were taken is not clear, they showed him sitting in a wheelchair, an apparent clue that the party took place after his 2014 accident that left him paralyzed beyond waist. A person earlier close to Cawthorn has reportedly verified the authenticity of the images.

After the images went viral, the embattled congressman, who recently alleged that his Republican colleagues do cocaine and often host orgies, took to Twitter to condemn the Left while confirming the photos were of him only. He wrote: “I guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me? They're running out of things to throw at me... Share your most embarrassing vacay pics in the replies.”

He also shared a link of “Royal Caribbean's Quest Game Show” that says, “What Royal Caribbean event has you sharing your underwear, putting lipstick on strangers and screaming at the top of your lungs? It's the Quest game show, the adults-only scavenger hunt that ranks as a cruise can't-miss.”

But Cawthorn’s defense mechanism did not work as people were quick to criticize him and accuse him of “sanctimony and hypocrisy”. They also brought up his earlier tweet, which he shared a few days ago, trying to undermine people belonging to LGBTQ community. He had said, “There’s only one God and two genders. Get back to common sense!” 

Rep Dean Phillips slamming the 26-year-old tweeted, “Madison Cawthorn can wear womens’ lingerie every day if he chooses. It’s a free country. Just stop the sanctimony, hypocrisy, projection, and shaming of others who simply wish to be their authentic selves, too.”

A user stated, “I don't care that Madison Cawthorn likes to wear lingerie in his free time. It doesn't bother me, and it doesn't affect me. If he wants to be playful with gender expression, it's his life. I do care that Madison Cawthorn attacks trans people and shames us for living our lives,” before adding: “Madison Cawthorn tweeted this four days ago. I can't emphasize enough how exhausting it is to be a trans person right now.” Another user wrote: “Oh. Well. Hmm. That looks entertaining. 🙄 Why do I feel like I’m the only person who is not shocked at the compromising tape recordings & pictures that are starting to come out on Rs?  (That’s a rhetorical question.) It’s gonna get worse. I know you know. 👁” “Well, uh…I’m kinda speechless. I’m not sure Madison Cawthorn is gonna like THIS media attention. Hey, if he likes women’s lingerie that’s cool, but maybe he should cut out the trans bashing,” a tweet read.

Tristan Snell, a lawyer, blasted: “Madison Cawthorn can take "goofy vacation photos" however he likes. It's not the photos, it's the hypocrisy. Stop telling the rest of us what to do when you're not exactly a saint.” Pro-Democracy advocate Fred Wellman added: “The pictures of Madison Cawthorn show a young man who drinks a lot and is an absolute hypocrite. He is constantly pounding his Christian upbringing and values while attacking others. He’s a fraud who has been told how special he is his whole life. Send him home for good.”
