Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner fears for life, seeks jail change AGAIN
Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is once again demanding that he be moved to a different prison. Brueckner, who is currently locked up in solitary confinement at the Oldenburg prison near Bremen was moved there because he was unhappy at the former prison he was locked up in. Brueckner, a convicted pedophile, is currently serving time for raping an elderly woman in Praia de Luz — a vacation town in Portugal's Algarve — the same place Madeleine disappeared from while on a holiday with her parents and siblings in 2007.
Brueckner became the prime suspect in Madeleine's kidnapping in 2020, with police adding that the girl had been killed in Portugal itself. Police believe Brueckner had snatched the then-three-year-old Madeleine from her bed at the Algarve vacation resort before subsequently killing her. The case has been sensational for the curious nature of Madeleine's disappearance, especially after a former Portuguese cop on the case, Goncalo Amaral, blamed the girl's parents Kate and Gerry McCann for her disappearance. Amaral has also claimed that Brueckner is innocent in the case, despite incriminating evidence all pointing towards the suspect.

As of now, Brueckner has neither been questioned nor charged with the kidnapping or murder of Madeleine. The convict, currently serving time in a prison dubbed Germany's Alcatraz, has allegedly been "complaining pretty much since the day he arrived," sources told The Sun. "The ironic thing is that he was moved in the first place because he was unhappy about his treatment at the hands of guards inside his former prison," they said, adding: “He has been groaning that this place is worse and that he is not being treated in the right way. He desperately wants to move somewhere else."
Sources also added that Brueckner "is also being kept in total isolation and away from the other prisoners, many of whom would love to get their hands on him and teach him a lesson. There are a lot more violent offenders in Oldenburg than most German prisons so the risk to Christian is far higher. He’s a target for the other inmates." Covered with CCTV cameras, with doors and windows all made from specially reinforced safety glass for easier vigilance of dangerous inmates, the high-tech facility is located in northwest Germany. There's a 22ft high wall surrounding the prison which is deemed inescapable, apart from one incident where an inmate had coaxed a guard into helping him escape.
While Brueckner's lawyer has not revealed why the inmate was moved to the dreaded German prison, his transfer comes after he fell and broke his ribs during a scuffle with guards at the Wolfenbüttel prison near Braunschweig. Brueckner was reportedly unhappy in his previous prison because he was allegedly being bullied by other inmates for being linked to the Madeleine case. He is currently serving seven years for the attack on the elderly woman in Algarve — a crime he was arrested for 12 years after the assault took place.
Brueckner, a prolific burglar, also has convictions for sex crimes against underage girls. He has denied any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine ever since he was dubbed prime suspect in June 2020. Police have revealed that Brueckner had also been living in the Algarve area between 1995 and 2007. He held odd jobs around the area, including catering, and had also been involved in several burglaries and drug dealings in hotels around the vacation spot.
