'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 8 just killed off [spoiler] and fans are heartbroken
Spoilers for 'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 8 'Father + Son + Father + Matriarch'
'MacGyver' Season 4 has been something of a rollercoaster ride but never more so than in Episode 8 'Father + Son + Father + Matriarch'. Featuring the return of James MacGyver / Oversight (Tate Donovan) and his archenemy Elliot Mason (Peter Weller), we always knew this would be a pretty major episode but no one expected it to be as emotionally charged as it ended up being.
The older MacGyver has always had a bit of a complicated relationship with his son Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) but in 'Father + Son + Father + Matriarch' they reunite for a daring mission against Codex and Mac's aunt Gwendolyn Hayes (Jeri Ryan). In the episode, Oversight is injured shielding Mason from gunfire and in the story's final moments, he sacrifices himself to buy Mac and Mason time to escape, saving his son's life one last time in a moment that has rocked the fanbase to the core.
"Wow. #MacGyver was intense tonight!!" One fan wrote on Twitter. "This season has been stellar so far. Loving the work that @lucastill is doing. Mac seems more vulnerable which is Hot! Cried at the loss of (spoiler). Great job @MacGyverCBS."
Another fan tweeted, "Omg!! What a spectacular episode!! I have no words either.. RIP James MacGyver 😭."
Of course, some fans aren't ready to accept that James is really dead, with one fan tweeting, "I'm still not going to believe that Oversight is dead. Not until the Phoenix confirms it."
Other fans of the show are equally shell-shocked by the episode and we can tell they're going to be talking about this for years to come. "So @MacGyverCBS ended 10 minutes ago and I am still sitting in the same spot," a fan declared. "It was THAT GOOD."
"This..... I have NO words to describe all the feelings I had watching this episode." another fan wrote. "And when I thought nothing could break my heart more than 3x22 when charlie died this episode came a proved me wrong. Mac deserves better!"
That he really did but after spending his whole life trying to do right by his son, we can't think of a better way for James to finally kick the bucket. What did you guys think of the episode? Let us know in the comments.
'MacGyver' Season 4 airs Fridays at 8 pm ET exclusively on CBS.
