Spoilers for 'MacGyver' Season 5 Episode 9 'Rails + Pitons + Pulley + Pipe + Salt'
The Codex struggle is neverending and while that's bad news for Mac and his team, that means a great episode for us. The new episode is set to see Mac using his "superpower" to make sure that Codex does not get intel from the Department of Defense. As Desi Nguyen (Levy Tran) is heard saying in the promo, Mac is able to improvise his way out of any situation.
This time, he's about to scale a cliff with limited gear to make sure that information isn't transmitted. This isn't an easy job, not even for Mac, and the sneak peek had us a bit worried and wondering if he is hurt?

Is Mac in danger?
As Mac tries his best to get to Desi and Riley Davis (Tristin Mays), he starts to push faster up the cliff, but Wilt Bozer (Justin Hires) makes sure that Mac calms himself down and stops being a "hero". "Find the one next thing to hold on to," Bozer tells Mac. The scene is a bit emotional and shows how the team can only get things done because they are there for each other every step of the way, even when one of them has to climb a cliff. In one of the clips Desi is seen explaining to Riley why Mac always puts himself in danger. She says "he needs to take the risks, so we don't."
While Mac decides to climb the cliff himself to get to the tower because the road is inaccessible, he would need more than luck to make sure he comes out safe on the other side. Let's just say that this episode's going to keep us at the edge of our seats.

The official synopsis of the episode reads: "When Mac and the team are unable to prevent Department of Defense intel from falling into Codex's hands, Mac must scale a vertical cliff using only gear he can cobble together himself to prevent the info's transmission." It will premiere on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 8 pm EST on CBS. You can watch the promo below.
